Job DescriptionPosition Summary
The General Manager runs Contractor General end to end — sales, fabrication shop, counter operations, delivery fleet, inventory, and P&L. Contractor General is a full-service construction supply house and custom rebar fabrication operation: concrete forming systems (ICF, steel-ply), rebar in multiple grades, concrete accessories, drainage, sealers, hand tools, specialty construction and farm supply products, and an equipment rental program, all supported by jobsite delivery. This is a hands-on operator role for someone who knows the building materials industry and can lead a team, own a budget, and stay close to customers.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & P&L
- Own day-to-day operations across all functions of the business
- Manage the branch P report to ownership on revenue, margin, and expenses
- Set and execute the annual operating plan in line with ownership's goals
- Identify and pursue growth opportunities — new product lines, customers, geographies
Sales Leadership
- Lead inside and outside sales; set pricing strategy and margin discipline
- Maintain key account relationships — GCs, subs, homebuilders, ag customers
- Stay active in the bid environment; step in personally on strategic accounts
Inventory & Purchasing
- Own purchasing decisions across all product categories
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and rebate programs with key suppliers
- Maintain inventory levels that maximize fill rate and minimize dead stock
Fabrication Shop
- Oversee rebar cut-and-bend production, scheduling, and on-time delivery
- Manage shop staffing, quality control, equipment, and OSHA compliance
- Coordinate capacity with the sales team and identify equipment investment needs
Delivery & Rentals
- Manage fleet dispatch, DOT compliance, and preventive maintenance
- Oversee the rental program — availability, maintenance, billing, and utilization
People & Culture
- Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team across all functions
- Build a culture of accountability, customer service, and safety
- Handle performance and employee relations issues in partnership with HR
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of management experience in construction supply, building materials, or a related industry
- Proven P&L ownership at a branch or business unit level
- Strong product knowledge — rebar, concrete accessories, forming systems, or similar
- Experience leading sales teams in a relationship-driven environment
- Warehouse, yard, or fabrication operations experience
- Effective communicator and negotiator with vendors, customers, and employees
- Valid driver's license; willing to be in the field and on job sites
Preferred
- Rebar fabrication experience — cut-and-bend, shop drawings, scheduling
- Familiarity with ICF systems, steel-ply forming, or specialty concrete supply
- Existing contractor relationships in the regional market
- Delivery fleet and DOT compliance management experience
- Equipment rental operations background
- Degree in Business, Construction Management, or equivalent experience
