Job Description

Job DescriptionPosition Summary

The General Manager runs Contractor General end to end — sales, fabrication shop, counter operations, delivery fleet, inventory, and P&L. Contractor General is a full-service construction supply house and custom rebar fabrication operation: concrete forming systems (ICF, steel-ply), rebar in multiple grades, concrete accessories, drainage, sealers, hand tools, specialty construction and farm supply products, and an equipment rental program, all supported by jobsite delivery. This is a hands-on operator role for someone who knows the building materials industry and can lead a team, own a budget, and stay close to customers.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & P&L

  • Own day-to-day operations across all functions of the business
  • Manage the branch P report to ownership on revenue, margin, and expenses
  • Set and execute the annual operating plan in line with ownership's goals
  • Identify and pursue growth opportunities — new product lines, customers, geographies

Sales Leadership

  • Lead inside and outside sales; set pricing strategy and margin discipline
  • Maintain key account relationships — GCs, subs, homebuilders, ag customers
  • Stay active in the bid environment; step in personally on strategic accounts

Inventory & Purchasing

  • Own purchasing decisions across all product categories
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and rebate programs with key suppliers
  • Maintain inventory levels that maximize fill rate and minimize dead stock

Fabrication Shop

  • Oversee rebar cut-and-bend production, scheduling, and on-time delivery
  • Manage shop staffing, quality control, equipment, and OSHA compliance
  • Coordinate capacity with the sales team and identify equipment investment needs

Delivery & Rentals

  • Manage fleet dispatch, DOT compliance, and preventive maintenance
  • Oversee the rental program — availability, maintenance, billing, and utilization

People & Culture

  • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team across all functions
  • Build a culture of accountability, customer service, and safety
  • Handle performance and employee relations issues in partnership with HR

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of management experience in construction supply, building materials, or a related industry
  • Proven P&L ownership at a branch or business unit level
  • Strong product knowledge — rebar, concrete accessories, forming systems, or similar
  • Experience leading sales teams in a relationship-driven environment
  • Warehouse, yard, or fabrication operations experience
  • Effective communicator and negotiator with vendors, customers, and employees
  • Valid driver's license; willing to be in the field and on job sites

Preferred

  • Rebar fabrication experience — cut-and-bend, shop drawings, scheduling
  • Familiarity with ICF systems, steel-ply forming, or specialty concrete supply
  • Existing contractor relationships in the regional market
  • Delivery fleet and DOT compliance management experience
  • Equipment rental operations background
  • Degree in Business, Construction Management, or equivalent experience

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive base salary with performance bonus tied to revenue, margin, and operational KPIs. Benefits include health/dental/vision, PTO, 401(k) with match, and company vehicle or allowance.
