We are seeking an Assistant Water Resources Specialist I or Assistant Engineer I to join Valley Water's Groundwater Management Unit. This Assistant Water Resources Specialist I or Assistant Engineer I will support Valley Water's sustainable groundwater management programs by collecting and analyzing hydrogeologic data, conducting related studies, and supporting assigned projects. This position will conduct field work to monitor groundwater conditions and support Valley Water's domestic well testing program. To evaluate current and projected groundwater conditions, this position will use large datasets and analytical tools such as statistics, forecasting, numerical models, or other methods to prepare or review hydrogeologic reports and studies. This position consists of approximately 30% field work and 70% office work with a focus on groundwater quality. The position will support Valley Water's continued compliance with the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act and review proposed projects, regulations, and policies to help protect groundwater resources. This is a single position, for which the incumbent would be hired as either an Assistant Engineer I or an Assistant Water Resources Specialist I. There are multiple ways a candidate may develop the skills and experience required to be successful in this role. Depending on the background and experience of the selected candidate, the exact classification will be determined at point of hire. <li>Conducting hydrogeologic studies, investigations, and analyses, including evaluation of groundwater conditions and statistical trends, and sustainable groundwater planning. </li>
<li>Conducting field work to collect hydrogeologic data related to groundwater quality, surface water, groundwater levels and/or land subsidence; and validating related data. </li>
<li>Supporting Valley Water's domestic well testing program by supporting outreach, scheduling, and collecting samples, communicating results to well owners, and using related databases.</li>
<li>Analyzing proposed projects, land use, regulations and policies related to groundwater and developing recommendations for groundwater protection. </li>

<li>Principles of mathematics and its application to water resources projects and programs.</li>
<li>Practices of researching water resources issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting effective and technical reports.</li>
<li>Office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications related to the work.</li>
<li>English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation. </li>
<li>Principles and techniques for providing effective customer service to the public, vendors, contractors, and Valley Water staff.</li>

 Ideal Training and Education: Assistant Water Resources Specialist I Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in hydrogeology, hydrology, water resources management, civil or other field of engineering, geology, physical sciences, earth sciences, natural sciences or a field related to assigned functional area(s). Assistant Engineer I Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a field related to assigned functional area(s). OR Possession of a valid California Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate with two (2) years of associated paraprofessional engineering experience. Required License or Certificate Registration with the State of California as a Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus but is not required (if registered, a 2.5% differential will apply).
