Communications Engineering Technician Position Description:
The Communications Engineering Technician is responsible for overseeing the installation, implementation, testing, and labeling of a comprehensivecampus communications system, includingfiber optic networks, CAT6 voice & data cabling, Wi-Fi, DAS, ACS, IDS, Security cameras and multiple USSS Security systems. This role ensures the efficient, secure, and compliant installation of communication infrastructure to support the enterprises networking, telephony, and data transmission needs with dailyfield inspections, contractor evaluations, and collaboration with government personnelto support mission-critical projects.The ideal candidate will haveexperience working infederal government environments, and the ability tooperate within a Top-Secret security framework.
Fusion is seeking a CommunicationsEngineering Technicianto providetechnical oversight, quality control, and infrastructure compliance. The Engineering Technician will supportinfrastructure assessments.
Security Clearance Requirement
- Active Secret (S) clearance required; Top-Secret (TS) clearance preferred.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain clearance at the necessary level for assigned duties.
Key Responsibilities:
Construction Oversight & Quality Assurance
Review andenforce construction drawings, includingquality control- Conductsite inspectionsto evaluate conditions, recommend improvements, and oversee contractor execution
- Ensure projects comply withfederal, DoD, and engineering standardsfor safety and performance
- Manage thethree-phase control quality management processto verify compliance at all project stages
System Design Review & Implementation
- Review the design, engineering, and oversee the deployment offiber optic and structured cabling systems (CAT6, CAT6A, and future upgrades)across the new construction and existing facilities
- Review and oversee the implementationof communications distribution plansthat meets industry standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI, NEC, IEEE, as well as several federal government entities, among others)
- Oversee the installation oftelephone communications, including VoIP, Wi-Fi, Security ACS, IDS & Cameras as well as some legacy systems, ensuring seamless connectivity
- Assess campus-wide needs fornetwork bandwidth and security, ensuring scalability for future growth
- Ensure that all standards forpathways, cable management, racks, and distribution pointshave been installed for optimized performance
- Assist in the development oftraining programsfor ET staff on structured cabling, fiber optic technologies, and telephony systems
Collaboration & Compliance
- Ensure construction activities adhere toenvironmental, safety, and federal regulations
- Develop and maintaintechnical reports, engineering documentation, and QAQC compliance records
- Create and maintain a QAQC Tracking List with dates and details of all incidents found and noted
- Participate inmeetings, site briefings, and contract performance reviewsto provide technical insight
- Ensure compliance withindustry codes and government regulations, such as TIA/EIA, BICSI, NEC, IEEE, OSHA, and local building codes
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability towork in indoor and outdoor environments, including construction zones
- Ability towork in high-security environmentsrequiringstrict access controls and security protocols
- Work in indoor and outdoor environments, including nearhigh-voltage switchgear and substations
- Requires lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Experience withfiber optic splicing, structured cabling, VoIP, and telephone system management
- Preferred: Bachelors degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Information Technology, Construction Management, or a related field
- 5 years of experiencein, communications infrastructure, implementation, construction quality control, or infrastructure management (preferred)
- Preferred: Experience withDoD construction projects, military facilities, or government contracting
- Preferred: Certification(s) inBICSI RCDD, FOA, or equivalent
Technical Skills:
- Preferred: Active Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C) certification
- Strong knowledge ofcivil, mechanical, and electrical construction principles
- Familiarity withfederal construction regulations, NEC, OSHA, and safety compliance standards
- Proficiency inMicrosoft Office
- Experience infiber optic network design, CAT6/6A cabling, and telephony systems
- Familiarity withnetwork switching, routing, and structured cabling standards
- Strong knowledge oftesting and troubleshooting tools(OTDR, Fluke testers, etc.)
Soft Skills & Competencies:
- Excellent written and verbalcommunication and coordinationabilities across multidisciplinary teams
- Analytical and problem-solving skills totroubleshoot and optimize network performance
- Ability towork in high-paced environmentswhile managing multiple priorities
