The ATC Instructional Specialist will teach these courses between 8:00am and 3:00pm at the ATC’s Whitman Walker Max Robinson Center: 1201 Sycamore Dr, SE WDC 20032.
Specialist appointments are full-time, 12-month, professional staff positions. ATC classes are held five days a week in a lecture/lab format.
The Advanced Technical Center is a partnership with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) to provide DC high school students with the opportunity to complete dual enrollment pathways in Career and Technical Education and earn industry recognized credentials for entry-level career opportunities as a Clinical Medical Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician.
As integral members of the CAS educator team, Specialists focus on enhancing Trinity’s first-year academic experience, dual enrollment programs and meeting ambitious benchmarks for student learning, retention, and success. The incumbent will work closely with OSSE’s ATC leadership team while reporting to Trinity’s Dean of the College of Arts &amp; Sciences. The ATC Instructional Specialist will support the CAS dual enrollment students, with a regular course load of three classes a term, as well as participate in summer training opportunities.
Position Responsibilities:
Include offering active and engaged instruction and significant hands-on learning experiences tailored to the needs of the ATC student population; designing and delivering supplemental instruction for students needing additional support; playing an active role in instructional faculty development; and assessing both student proficiency and student learning outcomes, using results to improve student placement and retention and continuously improving instruction.

Qualifications:
Successful candidates should have earned at least a Master’s degree in the relevant field or Education from an accredited institution and be able to demonstrate strong teaching skills. Previous undergraduate or high school teaching experience required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching dual enrollment students, and who demonstrate excellence with engaged and active learning practices.
The specific responsibilities of the position include:

<li>Teaching three sections of each health science course per term in Trinity’s ATC Dual Enrollment Program;</li>
<li>Maintaining regular availability outside of class in offices hours, as well as any necessary supplemental instruction, tutoring, mentoring, and other forms of student-centered support;</li>
<li>Compiling and analyzing course assessment data to develop instructional interventions and collaborating with ATC and CAS administrative teams as needed;</li>
<li>Supporting work-based learning activities and serving as an advisor to the ATC’s HOSA health science student chapter and related meetings and competitions;</li>
<li>Attending weekly faculty meetings with ATC leadership, either in a face-to-face or virtual format;</li>
<li>Participate in all professional development; including multi-day (3 to 4 days) ATC Summer Instructor Institute; regular meetings with ATC instructional coach, and quarterly professional development days to prepare for the instruction of high school students;</li>
<li>Managing course and lab requirements and submitting supply requests as needed;</li>
<li>Updating gradebooks weekly and aligned to ATC grading policies as outlined in the SY 2025-26 instructional partner handbook;</li>
<li>Recording attendance daily in alignment with ATC attendance policies as outlined in the SY 2025-26 instructional partner handbook;</li>
<li>Adhering to and enforcing the ATC discipline policies as outlined in the SY 2025-26 instructional partner handbook;</li>

The successful candidate will have a track record of excellent teaching: demonstrated ability to connect with high school students; documented examples of curriculum development and assessment; and knowledge of current and successful foundational education teaching and learning strategies. The educator is essential to quality improvement efforts in the perioperative setting. This position analyzes the data, identifies educational needs of the unit/staff, troubleshoots, and monitors compliance. This position will actively participate in quality improvement activities, through the development and support of unit based PDCA’s. The educator ensures that nurses have the knowledge and skills necessary to practice, as well as the standards of care. The educator reviews evaluations of training courses, objectives, and accomplishments and makes recommendations for improvement and works closely with the Manager of Periop Education, Quality, and Safety. The Perioperative Nurse Educator collaborates with staff, management, and Administration to support program objectives and coordinates/provides in-service education as required. This position is also responsible for maintaining records and reports as appropriate. This position also participates in policy review and development. Maximizes participant learning through effective facilitation techniques and inspiring participation. This includes use of dynamic presentation skills, establishing rapport with participants to create an environment of trust and participation and encouraging constructive difference of opinions. The Educator listens actively and synthesizes participant discussion to reinforce learning objectives and effectively manages training time while being flexible to adjust to the learning needs of the group. This position maintains a professional demeanor inside and outside the classroom. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation. This position also collaborates with clinical educators and clinical managers in identifying, developing, and implementing educational activities for perioperative personnel caring for all patients that come through the perioperative areas. Qualifications EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in nursing required. Also requires enrollment in an accredited Master’s degree program; with a degree achieved within 5 years from date of hire or transfer. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: BLS required. Additional requirements as identified by the unit (i.e. ACLS, PALS, etc…) EXPERIENCE: 3–5 years of clinical experience, training or education experience required, preferably within healthcare and with adult learners. Knowledge of adult teaching principles required. Prior experience with program planning, curriculum development, and presentation preferred.
