About the Opportunity
CAPISIUS Consulting is recruiting on behalf of a client delivering large-scale cloud data center infrastructure programs. The client's name is confidential at this stage and will be disclosed to qualified candidates during the interview process.
Role Overview
As an Electrical Technical Writer in the Site Deployment organization, you will create, maintain, and improve the technical documentation required to support large-scale data center deployment, readiness, commissioning support, site turnover, and operational handoff. This role focuses on electrical infrastructure documentation for hyperscale data center environments, ensuring procedures, standards, playbooks, checklists, and knowledge content are accurate, controlled, field-usable, and aligned with safety, quality, and operational risk requirements.
You will partner closely with Site Deployment, Electrical Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, Facilities Operations, Reliability, Safety, Security, Compliance, Training, and vendor teams to translate complex electrical systems and deployment processes into clear, executable documentation — including method-of-procedure documentation, deployment guides, energization support materials, commissioning and readiness checklists, turnover packages, knowledge articles, escalation guides, and field work instructions.
This is not a general writing role. It is a technical infrastructure documentation role responsible for converting complex electrical deployment and operational processes into controlled, repeatable, and auditable content that enables safe, consistent execution across a rapidly scaling data center portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and improve technical documentation supporting electrical site deployment activities for large-scale data center builds, expansions, retrofits, and operational readiness milestones.
- Create clear, accurate, field-usable documentation for electrical infrastructure deployment, including SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, work instructions, readiness guides, commissioning support materials, punch-list support content, turnover packages, knowledge articles, and operational playbooks.
- Partner with electrical subject matter experts across deployment, engineering, construction, commissioning, facilities operations, reliability, safety, compliance, and vendor teams to capture technical requirements and convert them into executable documentation.
- Document electrical deployment processes related to power distribution, switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, PDUs, RPPs, busway, EPMS, grounding, labeling, energization readiness, load bank support, commissioning turnover, and operational handoff.
- Ensure documentation includes appropriate prerequisites, roles and responsibilities, safety considerations, step sequencing, risk controls, validation checkpoints, rollback or stop-work criteria, communication paths, and escalation requirements.
- Support documentation readiness for site milestones, including design-to-build alignment, construction completion, commissioning, integrated systems testing, site acceptance, operational turnover, and steady-state handoff.
- Maintain documentation quality through structured reviews, SME validation, version control, approval workflows, field feedback loops, audit trails, and periodic refresh cycles.
- Help standardize templates, terminology, metadata, document hierarchy, and repository organization to improve searchability, consistency, reuse, and adoption across sites and regions.
- Review existing electrical deployment documentation to identify gaps, inconsistencies, outdated content, unclear instructions, missing safety controls, or risks that could affect field execution.
- Translate lessons learned from commissioning outcomes, deployment issues, incident reviews, operational handoff feedback, vendor scope changes, and field observations into documentation improvements.
- Collaborate with Training and Operations teams to ensure electrical deployment documentation supports onboarding, qualification, site readiness, abnormal-event preparedness, and consistent execution by field teams.
- Support documentation reporting as needed, including content status, review compliance, open documentation gaps, readiness risks, and critical procedure health.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in technical writing, technical documentation, electrical documentation, data center deployment, critical facilities, infrastructure operations, construction documentation, commissioning support, engineering support, or similarly complex technical environments.
- Experience creating documentation for mission-critical infrastructure, including SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, work instructions, commissioning documentation, readiness checklists, turnover packages, field guides, knowledge articles, or controlled operating procedures.
- Strong understanding of electrical infrastructure in data center, industrial, utility, manufacturing, energy, or other mission-critical environments.
- Working knowledge of data center electrical systems such as medium-voltage and low-voltage distribution, switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, PDUs, RPPs, busway, grounding, EPMS, and related power monitoring or control systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work with technical subject matter experts and translate complex electrical processes into clear, accurate, step-based documentation for field execution.
- Experience supporting documentation in environments with formal change control, safety requirements, commissioning milestones, operational readiness requirements, vendor coordination, and multi-site standardization.
- Ability to assess documentation quality from a field usability perspective, including whether procedures are clear, complete, sequenced correctly, risk-aware, and executable by the intended audience.
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, Construction Management, Operations, English, Communications, Information Systems, or a related field preferred; equivalent technical operations or infrastructure experience will be considered.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong technical writing and editing skills with the ability to produce concise, accurate, field-ready documentation for complex electrical infrastructure environments.
- Ability to write procedures that reduce ambiguity, improve repeatability, support safe execution, and align with deployment, commissioning, and operational handoff requirements.
- Strong electrical technical acumen, with the judgment to ask effective questions, challenge unclear inputs, identify missing steps, and escalate documentation gaps that may create execution risk.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills across deployment teams, engineers, construction managers, commissioning agents, operations leaders, safety teams, compliance partners, and vendors.
- High attention to detail in terminology, procedure sequencing, version control, approval records, document ownership, formatting, and cross-document consistency.
- Ability to manage multiple documentation deliverables across concurrent site deployment milestones, shifting priorities, and geographically distributed teams.
- Strong information architecture skills, including template use, content organization, taxonomy, metadata, repository hygiene, and knowledge reuse.
- Comfort working in document management systems, knowledge bases, SharePoint/Confluence-style repositories, ticketing systems, and structured review or approval workflows.
Preferred Skills / Certifications
- Experience in hyperscale data centers, cloud infrastructure, colocation environments, utilities, industrial power systems, manufacturing, energy, aviation, healthcare, or other mission-critical settings.
- Experience documenting electrical deployment, commissioning, energization, maintenance, incident response, operational readiness, site acceptance, or turnover processes.
- Familiarity with CMMS, DCIM, BMS, EPMS, SCADA, commissioning platforms, ticketing systems, learning management systems, document management systems, or content management platforms.
- Experience with controlled documentation, document lifecycle management, version control, approval workflows, metadata standards, audit readiness, and content quality metrics.
- Familiarity with electrical safety concepts, lockout/tagout, energized work planning, arc flash awareness, method-of-procedure controls, job hazard analysis, and stop-work authority.
- Certifications or training in technical communication, electrical systems, data center operations, commissioning, project management, ITIL, Lean, Six Sigma, quality management, document control, or safety/compliance frameworks.
