POSITION SUMMARY

The elementary school classroom lead teacher is one of the primary stakeholders who influence the lives of children at Global Citizens PCS. Lead teachers will foster a student-centered learning environment that respects the culture and identity of each and every child so they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. In early childhood, our children learn all content areas in the target language for approximately 90% of the school day, and they learn their early literacy and math skills in English for approximately 10% of the school day. In elementary school (Kindergarten through 5th grade), we use a 50/50 model, where our children receive standards-based instruction (aligned to the Common Core State Standards) in reading, writing, math, and science in the target language for 50% of the time and in English for 50% of the time (each day). The lead English teacher will teach all content areas in English. With guidance and support from the Principal and the Elementary Coach, the Elementary Guide will lead a Montessori elementary classroom of approximately 27 to 30 children, ages 6-9 or 9-12. The Elementary Guide will be responsible for presenting the Elementary curriculum to students, participating in parent education and conferences and other family engagement, record and data management, and student assessment and intervention.
 
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Curriculum, Materials, and Classroom Management
<ul>
<li>Preparing the Montessori classroom environment to meet the students needs and interests.</li>
<li>Presenting consistent and individual group lessons to students and supporting each childs direction and success.</li>
<li>Meeting weekly 1:1 with students to work with them in assessing their own success and facilitating an individual path of progress.</li>
<li>Working with students of varying abilities assigned to the classroom, including those with learning exceptionalities, as well as participation in Child Study and Special Education meetings and enacting classroom based interventions to support children who need additional support</li>

Requirements &amp; Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Must possess an AMI, AMS, or another equivalent Montessori primary diploma in addition to, at a minimum, a Bachelors degree.</li>
<li>Have a firm commitment to upholding the schools mission and anti-bias/anti-racist pedagogy.</li>
<li>Demonstrate a willingness and ability to integrate data and assessment with the traditional Montessori curriculum in order to close the opportunity gap for our students.</li>
<li>At least three (3) years of classroom experience, in a public or urban setting preferred</li>

Position Summary:
This is a voluntary, unpaid internship that will provide general support for OCT's strategic work in Washington, DC. There may be opportunities to work on Capitol Hill if you are located near or visiting DC.
Government affairs interns will directly support OCT's legal efforts in federal actions, including the constitutional and public trust climate case filed against the federal government by 22 young people in Lighthiser v. Trump. Interns will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and potentially other cases. OCT relies heavily on interns for support, placing a premium on careful, accurate, and self-directed work. We are seeking experienced interns with excellent research, writing, and communication skills, and who are responsive, work independently, take initiative, are flexible and think creatively to find solutions. Previous political campaign experience is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:

<li> Assist supervisor in advancing OCT's strategic legal campaign to compel government action to implement science-based climate recovery policies at all levels of the federal government.</li>
<li> Correspond and educate members of Congress and their staff on the disproportionate impacts of the climate crisis on the health, economic opportunity, and fundamental rights of children and the urgent demand for a climate recovery plan - a return atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations to levels below 350 ppm by the year 2100 - to stabilize the planet. Secure cosponsors for the congressional resolution recognizing Children's Fundamental Rights to Life and a Stable Climate System. Track and perform legislative profiles and analysis on members of Congress. Draft communications and advocacy materials. Perform outreach with organizations to garner endorsements to the resolution.</li>

<li>Track tasks to ensure accountability as assignments can require a short turnaround given the fast-paced nature of the work.
