Job Description
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing buses and auxiliary equipment to ensure safe vehicle operation. This role requires a commitment to safety, strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a cohesive team in a 24/7 environment.
 
Key Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Demonstrate a consistent “safety first” mindset in all work activities.</li>
<li>Diagnose, inspect, repair, and replace components related to:</li>
<li>Brake, fuel, emissions, steering, suspension, and driveline systems</li>
<li>Passenger heating and cooling systems</li>
<li>Internal combustion engines (gasoline, diesel, alternative fuel)</li>
<li>Transmissions and differential systems</li>
<li>ADA equipment, gauges, controls, and safety equipment</li>
<li>Perform preventative maintenance, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, battery service, and CNG tank inspections.</li>
<li>Use computer diagnostic software and equipment (e.g., Cummins Insite, Allison DOC) to troubleshoot and repair systems.</li>
<li>Interpret and follow technical manuals, drawings, and electrical schematics.</li>
<li>Utilize hand tools, power tools, hydraulic presses, hoists, and lifting equipment to complete repairs.</li>
<li>Inspect and align vehicle chassis and conduct test drives to verify repairs.</li>
<li>Perform minor fabrication, welding, soldering, and related repair work.</li>
<li>Maintain accurate electronic service documentation and repair history.</li>
<li>Respond to service calls for in-field repairs.</li>
<li>Inspect, adjust, and repair protective guards, loose components, and safety devices.</li>
<li>Assist in training lower-level mechanics as needed.</li>
<li>Perform supervisory backfill duties when assigned.</li>
<li>Complete other related duties as required.</li>

Mechanic A Classification Requirements
<ul>
<li>Capable of diagnosing and repairing the most complex equipment issues.</li>
<li>Able to train and mentor Mechanics B and C.</li>

<li>CDL with air brakes and passenger endorsement</li>
<li>609 and 608 air conditioning certifications</li>
<li>At least five ASE H or T series certifications (two must be T6, T7, H6, or H7)</li>
