The College of Science is seeking a Program Coordinator. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.
The Research Development Unit (RDU) within the College of Science is focused on accelerating research growth by leveraging college resources to encourage faculty to address grand societal research challenges and target funding opportunities to increase the size and number of competitive research grants in alignment with the Oregon State University’s Strategic Plan SP4.0, the college’s diversity action plan, Embedding Equity, Access and Inclusion, and the College of Science’s Strategic Plan. The RDU designs and implements services, using an equity, access and inclusion (EAI) lens to help faculty, staff and student investigators succeed in obtaining and maintaining intramural funding within Oregon State University (OSU), and extramural funding from federal agencies and foundation grants.
The Program Coordinator is a member of the Research Development Unit working on complex projects, collaborating with faculty, staff, and researchers across the college and university. The Coordinator will report to the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies (Associate Dean) and collaborate with the Associate Dean and Director of Research Development (Director) to manage, administer and grow the programs within the Unit. The Coordinator will collaborate on activities across the unit and provide strategic input in several areas to increase the success of our research enterprise. Responsibilities include providing leadership and oversight within the Research Development Unit to manage projects, track and report research activities, develop and maintain databases of college proposal submissions and awards, provide data analysis and prepare quarterly reports of proposal submission and award progress in collaboration with the Associate Dean and Director. The Coordinator will collaboratively and independently design and implement workshops and other events and projects to support and enhance our research enterprise and portfolio. The Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Associate Dean and Director to develop metrics, including EAI metrics to assess our research, innovation seed-funding and outreach activities. The Coordinator will also develop tools and assist researchers in identifying and applying for external and internal funding opportunities and assist researchers with the grant submission process and provide proposal support to researchers submitting proposals as needed.

65% Program and Project Coordination Create and maintain databases of proposal submissions and awards and analyze the data based on metrics in collaboration with the Research Development Unit (RDU) staff and/or the College of Science Financial Planning Manager.
Provides reports of Research Development activities, which includes data analytics, in consultation and collaboration with the Associate Dean.
Assists the Associate Dean and Director in searching for funding opportunities for researchers. Works with the Associate Dean and Director to bring research teams together for large funding proposal and supports the proposal submission in coordination with the proposal support staff.
Leads, designs and collaborates with the Associate Dean and Director in creating professional development opportunities for faculty, graduate students, postdocs and other researchers in the College for example, grant writing workshops, open forums, and seminars with program managers across pertinent funding agencies.
Coordinates the annual spring OSU-OMSI Science Communication Fellowship Outreach Program and other activities with other college staff.
Collaborates with the Associate Dean and graduate advisors in leading the selection committee and processes for graduate student scholarships, fellowships and research awards, faculty & staff awards, and related activities.
Updates, designs, and implements online templates using the OSU online portal, InfoReady for the college funding and award opportunities, such as the internal funding program, the Graduate student Fellowship/ scholarship application submission process, the faculty/researcher awards nominations, and other applicable opportunities.
Supports the administration of small to medium sized research projects across the college and may collaborate and/or participate in the administration of large research projects in the College.
25% Proposal Support Exercises independent judgement and knowledge of best practices in research development and administration.
Coordinates with the proposal support staff in assisting researchers with grant applications. Serves as backup to the proposal support staff and provides mentorship and guidance as needed. This includes assisting faculty with proposal preparation and submission from inception to submission. During busy times, the coordinator will work with the proposal support staff to assist faculty with proposal submissions, including but not limited to budget review/development, budget justification review/development, review of logistical pieces of proposal submission.
Assists proposal leads with editing/writing proposals for clarity or offer guidance on strengthening the project description.
Revises proposal budgets if requested upon award as needed as a backup to the proposal support staff.
Collaborates with the Associate Dean and Director on updating procedures for managing cost share requests.
Serves as a backup for the proposal internal review and approval process for proposals submitted to the OSRAA through Cayuse.
Collaborates with other units on campus to maintain current information on proposal and award process and policies at the institutional, college and agency level.
10% Professional Development & Other Activities Participates in training and professional development opportunities pertinent to the position, in consultation with and approval by the Associate Dean.
Participates in equity, access, and inclusion learning opportunities.
