Compensation: $75,000- $95,000 DOE

Position Overview  

As an essential member of the Development and CommunicationsTeam, the Individual Giving Director drives the development andmaintenance of a portfolio of individual and major gifts to achievefundraising goals identified in the Center’s annual budget andstrategic plan. This new position will build out the Center’sIndividual Giving Program to diversify current revenue streamsallowing greater flexibility to truly drive our mission-centricstrategy. The ideal candidate will have exceptionalrelationship-building skills, comfort in a forward-facing donorengagement role and a strong understanding of donor/partnercultivation and management. This philanthropic leader will have aproven track record in building a donor portfolio and developingand implementing successful fundraising strategies andsystems. 

The Individual Giving Director will manage and direct each stepof the donor pipeline, including prospecting, qualification,cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. As a direct report tothe Chief Strategy Officer, they will utilize the Center’s Board ofDirectors to engage potential donors directly through cultivationand events. With the Communications Manager, this person willdevelop creative and influential content and marketing strategiesthat connect donors of all sizes with our work and its impact.Lastly, alongside our Foundation and Grants Manager, they willensure effective philanthropic operations and drive fundraisingbest practices. 

Responsibilities & Duties 

  • Lead cultivation,solicitation, and stewardship of an increasing portfolio ofprospective and current individual donors to ensure a steady poolof unrestricted funding, as well as identifying and recruiting newplanned giving donors. 
  • Craft and executesolicitation strategies for individual donors—write briefings,prepare correspondence, set meetings, make the ask, follow up onall solicitations, and steward the donation and the ongoingrelationship. 
  • Work with BoardAdvancement Committee.  
  • Organize and manageAnnual Fund and other individual giving efforts.  
  • Strengthenindividual-donor operations and stewardship.  
  • Oversee and improveinternal processes for donor research, communications and datamanagement.  
  • Work with theCommunications Team to build donor-centric cultivationmaterials. 
  • Ensure theconfidentiality and integrity of donor relationships, donor datamanagement, and gift agreements. 
  • Co-Supervise theCommunications and Development Coordinator 
  • Utilize events to engagedonors, prospects, and supporters across portfolios. 
  • Lead in design,preparation, and implementation of fundraising events. 
  • Participate in eventsand other networking opportunities with prospective and currentdonors.  
  • Develop strongrelationships with program staff and create effective ways tocommunicate their work to our donors and prospects. 
  • Become knowledgeable andconversant in all aspects of the Center for Large Landscapes’mission, programs, and strategic framework. 
  • Amplify a culture ofphilanthropy amongst our staff, board, andpartners.  
  • Perform specialprojects, research, and other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications &Expectations    

Preferred Qualifications:   

  • Minimum 8 yearsprogressive non-profit and fundraising experience, with emphasis onannual and major gifts fundraising strongly preferred. 
  • Demonstrated success inidentifying, cultivating, and soliciting individual donors withexperience securing gifts from individual donors of 5- to 6-figures. 
  • Excellentrelationship-building skills such as the ability to build rapportwith internal and external stakeholders around the Center’smission, approach and programs. 
  • Knowledge of currenttrends in charitable giving, annual appeals and majorgifts. 
  • Understanding of bestpractices in donor relationship management and eventplanning. 
  • Excellent organizationalskills, attention to detail and quality, and exceptional follow-upskills. 
  • Excellent written andverbal communication skills; experience giving presentations todonors or prospective donors. 
  • Proficient withMicrosoft Office programs, especially Excel, Word and PowerPointand proficient with cloud-based applications such as Google Suites,Box.com, and Slack.  
  • Experience withfundraising CRM/database programs. 
  • Passion for andinterest in the environment and nature; knowledge of conservationscience and ecology a plus. 
  • Outstandinginterpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate with a wide rangeof colleagues at the local and global levels. 

Essential Qualifications:  

  • Ability to workeffectively and respectfully across cultures.  
  • Ability to traveldomestically and possibly internationally, by car or plane, for upto 20% of their time. 
  • Must be legallyauthorized to work in the United States.
