PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Responsible for preparation of recurring, reclassification, standard and adjusting journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
- Reconciles general ledger account balances to supporting schedules and sub-ledger detail monthly.
- Involved in month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes, including accruals and adjustments.
- Maintains and updates financial records in compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Support the preparation of internal and external financial reports.
- Prepares bank reconciliations monthly.
- Prepares general excise tax returns on both cash and accrual method.
- Sets up and maintains fixed assets schedules to include additions, retirements, depreciation (Internal book and various tax books).
- Monitor and analyze accounting data to identify trends, variances or areas for improvement.
- Assist with audits by providing documentation and responding to inquiries
- Assists with special projects as requested.
PRINCIPAL REQUIREMENTS
Skills/Knowledge:
Math Excellent math skills to review and analyze financial data and perform calculations related to daily tasks.
Reading Able to read and understand financial forms and technical documents.
Other Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Email. Aptitude to learn in-house systems; keyboarding skills sufficient to complete daily tasks in a timely manner. Knowledge of accounting or ERP systems required. Knowledge of Vista or Sage 100 systems a plus.
Strong organizational and detail-oriented capabilities desired.
Excellent interpersonal skills for internal and external communications.
Education: College degree in Business Administration. Degree in Accounting Preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
Experience: 5+ years relevant experience in accounting, or closely related field. Previous experience in the construction or asphalt business is preferred.
