Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Ship Repair Technician with expertise in welding and shipfitting to join our team. The successful candidate will contribute to high-impact projects, supporting the Repair department on the USS Harpers Ferry & Floater Project.
Responsibilities
- Cut, grind, and assemble metal structural parts using fitting aids and rigging equipment to align parts according to blueprints.
- Tack and weld foundations and install temporary fasteners to hold structural members in place.
- Lay out work from blueprints and perform cutting, burning, grinding, rip-out, and fit-up of metal structural parts for placement on ship.
- Operate high reach equipment including condors and scissor lift.
- Set up tools and equipment at job site and clean up, removing scrap to nearest scrap tub.
- Use rigging equipment effectively.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of five years shipyard experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of blueprint reading, ship terminology, and different metals.
- Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) T-1 welding certification required.
- Ability to pass hands-on assessment test including knowledge, burning and scarfing, and fabrication assessments.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and to safely navigate around ships.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum two years of journeyman level experience.
- Good burning, welding, and craftsmanship skills with mechanical ability preferred.
- SMAW certification is optional but highly recommended.
- Proficiency in welding and tacking, burning and scarfing, tools and equipment, math and measurements, fitting processes and procedures, ship terminology, and blueprint interpretation.

Work Environment
The work involves supporting the Repair department on the USS Harpers Ferry & Floater Project. Candidates must be prepared to work at heights, in confined spaces, and on any assigned shift, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and maintaining general safety awareness to avoid hazards commonly present in the work area.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, California.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $43.00/hr.
