Job Description

Job DescriptionPosition Purpose:You will be taught underwriting rules/philosophies used to support our book of business for personal lines insurance. You will apply this knowledge as you review both new and existing policies for acceptability and compliance. Provide input for process, guideline, and policy improvement You will also use this knowledge to support the Business Product Owner in the development and testing of our core underwriting system used by Underwriters and Agents. Build relationships with agents and their staff.
Essential Job Functions and basic duties:
· Obtain crucial information to properly evaluate risk.· Respond to agent tasks and inquiries regarding policy coverage or information.· Process policy changes requested by agents.· Effectively and consistently make critical decisions.· Participate in audits of peers and agencies work product.· Consistently demonstrate ability to prioritize tasks of varying complexity and urgency.· Translate underwriting processes into testable use cases.· Support Business Product Owner in development of Underwriting Core system.· In a group setting, provide feedback on testing outcomes.· Effectively communicate verbally and in writing bugs, basic system requirements, and insurance policy language.
Other Job Functions:· Visit in person with Vendors and business partners.· Provide training to team members and agents.· Work with IT in creatin and maintenance of computer assisted processes.Material and Equipment Directly Used:

Mental Activities and Requirements of this position:
Reasoning Ability: Ability to analyze, use good judgment, and to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization. Able to interpret various instructions.Mathematics Ability: Ability to perform basic math.Language Ability: Ability to explain in writing and verbally your underwriting decisions and processes.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: College degree, CPCU or equivalent experience.Experience Required: 1+ year(s) prior experience as a Personal Lines Underwriter. 2+ year other insurance experience.Skills/Abilities: Strong typing abilities. (55 wpm) Well organized and attentive to detail. Excellent phone skills. Good communication and public relations skills. Strong problem-solving abilities. SQL DevOps Basic coding knowledge
