Position Summary
Under the direction of the Regional Maintenance Manager, the HVAC Technician will be responsible for performing service calls across all H&S Energy Southern California residential and commercial site locations. The ideal candidate will maintain a clean driving record and demonstrate a strong ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC systems, including walk-in coolers and refrigeration units. The HVAC Technician is a reliable professional, urgently responding to on-call service requests with technical proficiency, attention to safety and compliance and in a timely fashion.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Perform HVAC diagnostics, repairs, installations, and routine maintenance across multiple commercial and residential sites.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical and refrigeration systems, including control cycles and air conditioning units.
- Respond promptly to emergency and after-hours service calls, participating in an on-call rotation as needed.
- Operate in varied physical environments such as rooftops, attics, crawl spaces, and other confined areas.
- Ensure all HVAC and refrigeration equipment complies with EPA and state regulatory standards.
- Accurately document all service calls, maintenance activity, repairs, and installations in company records.
- Drive a company-issued vehicle to various store locations throughout Southern California, complying with all traffic laws and safety protocols.
- Maintain valid licensing, certifications, and a clean driving record as required by company policy and state regulations.
- Provide timely responses to emergency HVAC issues to minimize operational downtime at retail locations.
- Maintain accurate logs of all HVAC service activities, including preventive maintenance and emergency repairs.
- Fabricate, install, maintain, and repair warm-air heating systems, water heater pumps, ventilation systems, air-conditioning systems, ducts, vents, flues, humidity controls, thermostats, air filters, and solar-assisted HVAC systems.
- Clean and inspect equipment components, including:
- Checking and adjusting temperatures
- Monitoring for ice build-up on evaporators
- Inspecting compressor oil levels and leaks
- Assessing suction line insulation and refrigerant levels
- Cleaning drain lines and inspecting fan motors and blades
- Practice proactive safety measures to identify and report hazards, supporting a safe, hazard-free work environment.
- Use proper lifting techniques and body mechanics to avoid injury and ensure safe handling of tools and equipment.
- Perform basic mathematical computations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, percentages) related to equipment inventory, service tracking, and maintenance tasks.
- Follow verbal and written instructions carefully, ensuring thorough follow-through on assignments.
- Read and comprehend technical manuals, memos, and safety materials to apply information effectively in daily responsibilities.
- Participate in ongoing technical training and continuing education as directed by management.
- Consistently demonstrate safe and responsible work practices and immediately report any hazardous or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
Education and Work Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience Required
- EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) Certification Required
- CSLB (CA C-20 HVAC Contractor License) Required
- Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving history (2 years) with no moving violations Required

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Extensive regional travel required, with fluctuating hours with OT (overtime) due to an on-call and scheduled dispatched basis.
- While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to talk or hear; read and identify numbers for accurate order filling and receiving material. The employee is regularly required to apply sound reasoning and logic performing daily tasks.
- The incumbent frequently is required to use hands, fingers, handle or feel objects, tools and controls.
- The incumbent is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. (Control spaces, attics, roofs etc.)
- The incumbent may regularly lift and/or move heavy hoses and other equipment regularly (50 LBS).
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Must be able to safely tolerate heat in the summer and cold in the winter.
