Responsibilities of School Counselor

  • Provide ongoing support to students throughout the day through classroom push-in and as-needed crisis management
  • Develop relationships with each student
  • Be part of a strong support team for the Cloud campus community by developing overarching SEL systems of support
  • Maintain an open "support room" (office) for students to come to as needed throughout the day for emotional regulation and problem-solving
  • Provide IEP mandated individual counseling as needed
  • Help students develop SEL goals, progress toward mastery, and measure success, and share these at student IEP meetings
  • Support teachers as they guide students toward mastery of goals, and help them collect evidence of progress
  • Conduct counseling consultations with clinicians of prospective students. Collaborate with the admissions team, Head of School, and learning specialist to evaluate student applications and make recommendations
  • Maintain frequent communication with families and outside service providers to ensure that student needs are being met
  • Run weekly small group counseling sessions
  • Teach health classes using a social-emotional lens based on the needs of the campus
  • Teach Friday classes that incorporate social pragmatic skill-building
  • Host other social groups, including lunch bunch and Friday recess
  • Write and consistently update student learning profiles based on prior evaluations
  • Attend and sometimes lead staff training and student articulation meetings
  • Communicate significant student concerns to the Head of School and collaborate on developing and implementing appropriate action/behavior plans when necessary
  • Meet with teachers as needed to discuss executive functioning and classroom management strategies
  • Run parent support groups and facilitate parent workshops
  • Complete social emotional standard ratings and comments for report cards, each trimester
  • Supervise interns if applicable

Requirements

  • Master's degree in School Counseling, Social Work or related field preferred
  • Relevant certifications
  • 2+ years experience in schools preferred
  • Experience with gifted and/or Twice-Exceptional (2e) learners preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with at least one of the following: CBT, DBT, Collaborative and Proactive Solutions

The salary range for this position is $50,000-$60,000.
