Accountant

The Accountant supports the company’s financial operations within a dynamic HVAC manufacturing environment. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and assisting in day-to-day accounting functions. The ideal candidate will assist with monthly and yearly financial reporting, ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data, understand inventory management, and be capable of providing backup to the Accounting Manager. This position also requires flexibility to assist with administrative tasks and a willingness to work collaboratively across departments.

Accountant Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as backup to the Accounting Manager for essential financial operations.

  • Assist in maintaining and analyzing job cost data for raw materials, labor, and overhead.

  • Monitor and report on budget vs actual production costs.

  • Track and analyze work-in-progress accounts.

  • Reconcile and audit credit card statements through Sage.

  • Perform monthly and year-end inventory reconciliations.

  • Support cycle counts and physical inventory processes.

  • Process vendor invoices and route for payment approval.

  • Monitor supplier payments through weekly check runs and match invoices against purchase orders and receipts.

  • Support the AP/AR functions specific to vendor purchases and customer billings.

  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.

  • Track capital expenditures and project spending.

  • Prepare and post journal entries for accruals, prepaids, and adjustments.

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies.

  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.

  • Assist in preparing internal financial statements and deliverables to management.

  • Support forecasting and budgeting processes.

  • Ensure adherence to company policies and internal controls.

  • Assist with external audits, including documentation and testing.

  • Support ERP-related process improvements.

  • Partner with operations, procurement, and production teams to understand financial impacts.

  • Answer accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.

  • Comply with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation.

  • Maintain customer confidence by keeping financial information confidential.

  • Analyze and recommend financial actions and improvements.

Accountant Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. CPA or CMA certification is a plus.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.

    • Experience with Sage or similar accounting software is strongly preferred.

    • Strong knowledge of GAAP.

    • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly within Excel and an ability to work with large data sets.

    • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

    • Excellent organizational and communication abilities.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
