Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in various tasks, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and offer recommendations for workflow improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
  • Decontaminate and update patient information.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections, such as urine or fecal, as required.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
  • Verify test requisitions or computer labels against script for accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport and store samples at the required temperature.
  • Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and accurately label them.
  • Follow specific procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Pediatric and adult drawing skills required, as the role involves seeing patients of all age groups.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED with 0-2 years of experience.

The position involves direct interaction with patients and medical staff, requiring professionalism and adherence to safety protocols. The work schedule may vary, and the dress code typically involves wearing appropriate medical attire.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jackson, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
