Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Certification and minimum 2+ years Surgical Tech / Operating Room Tech experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A healthcare facility in Petersburg, IL, is seeking an experienced and skilled Operating Room Technician for a contract position. This role requires a minimum of three years experience working in a fast-paced surgical environment, supporting a diverse range of cases within a Level I trauma center and teaching hospital setting. Ideal candidates will bring well-rounded surgical expertise and comprehensive knowledge of aseptic techniques and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for cases including general surgery, gynecology, neurosurgery, oral surgery, orthopedic, plastic, trauma, and urology procedures
  • Assist the surgical team during multiple types of operations such as appendectomies, thyroidectomies, craniotomies, arthroscopies, and free flap microvascular surgeries
  • Demonstrate proficiency in endoscopic procedures including colonoscopy, EGD, and PEG tube placement/exchange
  • Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques, isolation precautions, radiation and fire safety, sharps handling, and universal surgical protocols
  • Participate in patient care during emergency surgical interventions and trauma cases
  • Float within scope of practice to meet department needs and respond to on-call requests as required

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years experience in operating room technology within general OR, teaching hospital, or trauma settings
  • Certification: BLS required; CST preferred
  • Proven expertise in a broad range of surgical case types, including ENT, orthopedic, neurosurgical, and trauma surgeries
  • Skilled in instrumentation and equipment such as drills, electrosurgical units, and fiber optic light sources
  • Experience with aseptic techniques, specimen labeling, and surgical time-out protocols
  • Willingness to work one weekend per month and participate in on-call rotations
  • Must live more than 50 miles from the location to be eligible
