About the Role
The Director of Safety at JSX is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the airline’s Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring compliance with FAA and TSA regulations, and promoting a proactive safety culture throughout the organization. This role serves as a key safety leader, driving continuous improvement, risk management, and operational excellence across all departments.
A Day in the Life
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of JSX’s Safety Management System (SMS).
- Monitor safety performance indicators to ensure alignment with FAA Part 135 requirements.
- Ensure compliance with the Federal Air Operator Security Program and other applicable safety and security regulations.
- Serve as the primary liaison with the FAA and other regulatory bodies on safety matters.
- Oversee investigations of safety-related incidents, accidents, and hazards, ensuring accurate documentation and root cause analysis.
- Manage the reporting process and ensure timely corrective and preventive actions.
- Promote a strong, proactive safety culture among crewmembers, maintenance personnel, and leaders.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs, communications, and briefings for all operational teams.
- Act with delegated authority of the CEO to coordinate with the COO, departmental leaders, and the Part 119 directors on all safety-related matters.
- Recommend and prioritize resource allocation to support safety initiatives and risk mitigation efforts.

Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of 5 years in safety management or aviation operations.
- Experience managing safety programs (FOQA, ASAP, Irregularity Reporting, etc.) in a fast-paced, customer-focused aviation environment.
- Strong knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
- Proven track record ensuring compliance with FAA regulations and safety standards.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Strategic mindset paired with operational awareness.
- Ability to brief executives, regulators, and frontline teams with authority and clarity.
- Strong decision-making in high-pressure, safety-critical environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Aviation Safety or a related field.
- Commercial Pilot or ATP rating preferred

Pay & Perks
Compensation is $140,000 - $150,000/annually. This was established after performing market research and is aligned with our approach to compensation.
