About the Role

Sigma Inc. is seeking an experienced Risk Manager Risk Management & Patient Safety to work onsite with Beth Israel Lahey Health Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, MA. This role plays a critical part in ensuring patient safety, supporting hospital operations, and mitigating clinical and operational risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, analyze, and adjudicate safety event reports in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Perform Root Cause Analyses (RCA) on serious safety events.

  • Evaluate and triage Serious Reportable Events (SREs) and complete Risk Category Scores (RCS).

  • Filter through legal documents, claims, and lawsuits to determine escalation needs.

  • Communicate with malpractice insurers when required.

  • Support a small internal team of 3 Risk Specialists handling litigation, claims, and event reviews.

  • Collaborate with clinical and operational teams to identify, mitigate, and prevent risks affecting staff and patient safety.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and institutional risk-management standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Prior Risk Management experience (mandatory)preferably in a hospital or healthcare system.

  • Strong ability to review and interpret legal documents, claims, and lawsuits.

  • Knowledge of Serious Reportable Events (SREs) and experience performing RCAs (Root Cause Analyses).

  • Understanding of hospital operations, patient safety, risk mitigation, and malpractice processes.

  • Ability to analyze safety reports, follow up with involved departments, and close events appropriately.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical abilities.

  • Masters in Nursing is nice to have, but not required.
