Job Description

ISRG | Assistant Director of Advancement
Location: Remote within the contiguous United States
Reports to: VP of Advancement
Total Compensation: $75k, 100% 401k Match, Excellent Insurance, Flexible PTO

Our mission at ISRG is to reduce financial, technological, and educational barriers to secure communication over the Internet. We operate three projects (Let’s Encrypt, Prossimo, and Divvi Up) that improve the security and privacy of billions of people using the Internet.

ISRG was founded 12 years ago. Throughout our history, we’ve grown and diversified our revenue to respond to evolving needs and ambitions within our organization. We are a small team so we focus on efficiency, automation, and going for the big wins - and we see grants as an important way to deliver on these priorities. The Advancement team operates as a combined communications and fundraising team because we view the two functions as symbiotic. As such, we highly value and deliver strategic, compelling, and effective communications which are the wind in the sails of our successful fundraising.

The right candidate will bring creativity, acuity, and a systems-oriented mindset. You should be comfortable building processes from the ground up, collaborating across teams, and ensuring that our communications are effective and efficient.

We are seeking an experienced grants-focused fundraising professional to secure and grow funding that advances our mission. Responsibilities primarily include:

  1. Expand ISRG’s portfolio of grants and institutional giving
  2. Manage deliverables and reporting to strengthen funder relationships
  3. Develop communications and marketing materials for grant and donor prospecting and stewardship
  4. Collaborate with engineers to ensure technically accurate, compelling proposals and reports
  5. Curate meticulously the data in our CRM database
  6. Manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  7. Support other Advancement fundraising and communications projects as needed

Position Must-Haves

  • 5+ years of professional experience in grant writing and/or grant management
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple six or seven-figure grants
  • Proficiency with Salesforce for data tracking and reporting
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences (including engineers and technical leaders such as CTOs or CIOs)
  • Interest in technical aspects of our projects
  • Systems-oriented thinker who eliminates inefficiencies
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Collaborative and adaptable, willing to lend a hand to get the highest priority work done, even if falls outside your typical responsibilities
  • Willingness and ability to travel

Nice-to-Haves

  • Demonstrated experience writing awarded government grants
  • Demonstrated experience writing awarded non-US grants

Location and Benefits
This is a remote position available anywhere in the contiguous United States. Travel expectations are 1-4 times per year. We will help you get your home office in good shape, including reimbursing internet and phone expenses every month. Other benefits include excellent medical, dental, vision, and supplemental insurances with no premiums for you or your dependents, 100% match for 401k contributions, flexible time off and generous parental leave.

Inclusive Workplace
Not sure if you actually meet some of our requirements? Studies have shown that female-identifying folks and people of color are less likely to be confident that they meet requirements. At ISRG we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but you’re not sure if your past experience aligns with the requirements in the job description, we encourage you to reach out to careers@abetterinternet.org.

ISRG is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, gender, orientation, national origin, age, disability, or any other characteristic. We celebrate diversity and strive to create an inclusive workplace for everyone. It is a priority for us to represent the diversity of the billions of people who use the Internet for their lives and work. We want to understand how to make security and privacy more accessible to everyone, and we value different perspectives and experiences. We strongly encourage people from under-represented communities to apply to help us make the Internet better!
