We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.
About This RoleAs part of Intersect’s External Affairs team, you’ll design and lead strategic community engagement programs that strengthen trust, transparency, and collaboration across the communities where our large-scale power and infrastructure projects are developed and operated. You’ll guide a team of Community Engagement Professionals, shaping engagement strategies from early siting through operations. Working cross-functionally with Development, Permitting, and Policy teams, you’ll ensure community perspectives are meaningfully integrated throughout each project’s lifecycle.
Team OverviewThe External Affairs team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect’s mission to deliver the next generation of power and infrastructure projects through open, transparent relationships with communities, policymakers, and stakeholders. By building local partnerships and aligning our projects with community priorities, the team helps ensure Intersect’s developments create shared value for the regions where we operate.
What You’ll Do
Lead Strategic Community Engagement• Develop and implement comprehensive engagement strategies across the full project lifecycle from early siting and permitting through construction and operations.• Identify and address potential community impacts, incorporating local feedback into project planning and mitigation measures.• Partner with Development and Permitting to align engagement plans with project milestones, permitting requirements, and regulatory obligations.
Foster Meaningful Local Relationships• Build and maintain trusted relationships with landowners, residents, elected officials, and agency staff in project communities.• Serve as a visible and approachable representative of Intersect in the community, responding to inquiries and facilitating open, transparent communication.• Plan and execute public meetings, community events, sponsorships, and outreach activities that reflect community values and priorities.
Guide and Grow a High-Performing Team• Supervise and mentor a small team of Community Engagement Professionals, setting clear goals and supporting professional growth.• Foster a collaborative culture of learning, adaptability, and proactive problem-solving.• Coordinate with internal partners to ensure consistent messaging and alignment across all engagement touchpoints.
Drive Insights and Impact Measurement• Conduct stakeholder and siting analyses using mapping tools and local data to inform engagement strategies.• Track engagement metrics, report on outcomes, and refine approaches to improve transparency, responsiveness, and trust.• Represent the Community Engagement function in internal and external meetings, ensuring community perspectives inform company decisions.
What You’ll Bring• 8+ years of experience in public affairs, communications, or community engagement within the power, infrastructure, or large-scale development sectors.• 3+ years of experience leading teams or managing direct reports.• Bachelor’s degree in public affairs, communications, environmental studies, or a related field; advanced degree a plus.• Demonstrated experience with California and/or Texas projects, including familiarity with CEQA review and rural community dynamics.• Proven ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with diverse community stakeholders and public agencies.• Skilled in stakeholder analysis and mapping tools to assess siting and community impact.• Strong project management and organizational abilities, with clear, audience-sensitive communication skills.• Collaborative, adaptable, and empathetic problem-solver who thrives in complex, cross-functional environments.• Enthusiasm for engaging communities and representing major infrastructure initiatives with integrity, respect, and transparency.
