Job Description

Dan Rak Design Group is a luxury interior design firm with offices in Chicago, Illinois and Naples, Florida. We are a quickly growing firm focused largely on luxury residential clients. While the majority of our projects are located in Chicagoland and Southwest Florida, we're also regularly working on projects throughout the country.

As a firm, we’re focused on doing excellent work for our clients from both a creative and logistical perspective. We love what we do and work hard to achieve great results for our clients. We’re also focused on creating a supportive, mutually respectful, and fun working environment for our team. As an up-and-coming firm with many exciting things on the horizon, we offer a lot of opportunity for growth.

As a firm, we recognize the importance of work-life balance and have implemented a four-day work week where Fridays are off to allow for family, rest, and other personal pursuits.

We look for the following qualities in all of our team-members

  • A positive, team-oriented person with a strong sense of self-confidence and awareness, along with the ability to think critically and take the initiative to get the job done;
  • An effective communicator (both in writing and in person);
  • A service-oriented mindset and focus on providing excellent client service;
  • A respectful attitude toward others, including co-workers, clients, vendors, and other contractors;
  • The ability to prioritize and balance competing demands.

What you can expect to find here

  • A high-performing, focused environment in a stylish office in River North;
  • A busy, fast-paced office where you'll be asked to manage competing demands and contribute to the team in a meaningful way, working in collaboration with our senior designers, design director and principal designer.
  • An opportunity to learn new skills and to gain experience and growth within the firm and industry.

We're seeking an Interior Designer to contribute to projects across all phases of the design process. In this role, you'll work independently on key aspects of design projects, support senior designers on full-scope work, and have the opportunity to lead smaller-scale projects such as single-room redecorations. This is a growth-oriented role for someone building toward full project leadership while helping deliver thoughtful, cohesive interiors that reflect both our brand and the client's vision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to Design Projects: Work independently on key project components including space planning, FF&E selections, sourcing, and styling. Lead smaller-scope projects such as single-room redecorations from concept through completion, while supporting senior designers on full-house and other large-scale work.
  • Client Communication: Present design concepts clearly, participate in client meetings, and help maintain strong client relationships built on trust and transparency. Build toward managing client relationships on larger projects.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with senior designers, project managers, and the purchasing team in a creative, low-ego studio environment. Take direction from senior staff while contributing your own ideas and perspective.
  • Technical Documentation: Produce floor plans, elevations, finish schedules, and specifications using AutoCAD or Revit. Coordinate with contractors and trades, with senior oversight on more complex scopes.
  • Procurement & Install Support: Partner with our in-house logistics team to help ensure orders are tracked, delivered, and installed smoothly. Be on-site as needed.
  • Studio Culture: Contribute to an open, collaborative office where designers support each other and share ideas freely. Help keep our environment positive, inclusive, and productive.

Required

  • 3+ years professional interior design experience (residential or boutique commercial)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, clients, and deadlines simultaneously
  • Working knowledge of furnishings, materials, custom fabrication, and finishes
  • Experience working with contractors and vendors on-site

Preferred

  • Experience working on full-scale renovations or new construction projects
  • Familiarity with Studio Designer and trade-only vendors
  • Chicago-based with working knowledge of local resources and showrooms

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • 4-Day Workweek: We work Monday through Thursday—with Fridays off—to promote work-life balance.
  • Relaxed + Professional: We believe the best design happens when people feel respected, supported, and inspired. No egos, no unnecessary stress.
  • Creative Culture: Our team collaborates closely, bouncing ideas off each other and working together to solve problems and elevate every project.
  • Design-Driven: We take pride in our work and care deeply about the details. You’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact and grow creatively.
  • Benefits Include:
    • Competitive salary
    • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
    • 401K program with matching
    • Paid time off and holidays
    • Beautiful studio space in downtown Chicago

Dan Rak Design is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome designers of all backgrounds and identities to join our team.

Let’s create something great—together.
