POSITION OVERVIEW
The Physician’s primary job function is to be responsible for provision of emergency services at Surepoint
Emergency Centers. Works independently and interdependently with other providers and staff to administer this
care. Job performance is evaluated through direct observation, consultation and written documentation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Works independently using his or her best professional judgment while practicing medicine at Surepoint
Emergency Centers within his or her scope of practice. Works interdependently with other health care
providers and health care staff in a team environment. Maintain a courteous attitude toward internal
and external customers at all times.
• Attends all required staff meetings, provider meetings, and participate in committees or activities as
directed by Medical Director.
• Performs emergency procedures in accordance with Surepoint Emergency Centers
credentialing/privileging policy. Maintenance of credentials essential for practice, including licensure,
certification and CME.
• Consults with and coordinates patient care with other physicians, covering community primary care
physicians, hospitalists, other specialists, nurses, or other health care professionals as appropriate.
Assess patient needs and arrange for specialty referrals, diagnostic and in-patient care and make
appropriate referrals for service.
• Responsible for accurate, timely, and complete documentation of patient records.
• Provide patients and family members with counseling and education regarding health maintenance,
disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and need for follow up as appropriate during each patient
emergency department visit. Verify and document that the patient understands diagnosis, treatment and
follow up recommendations.
• Renders care to Surepoint Emergency Centers patients in accordance with quality and standards
established by the standards of care prevailing in the community. This is to include the medical screening
of all patients who present to the facility and agree to the offered screening.
• Participate in Quality Improvement activities as requested by the Medical Director.
• Maintains good personal hygiene
QUALIFICATIONS
• Must possess current, valid unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas.
• Must have a current, valid and unrestricted DEA registration.
• Ability and willingness to work with diverse individuals.
• Skilled in interpersonal relationships.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Graduate of an accredited medical or osteopathic school with MD, DO or equivalent degree.
• Have a minimum of three years’ experience in emergency services.
• Have a current certification in advanced cardiac life support, Pediatric advanced life support, and advanced
trauma life support
