Job Description

Chief Financial Officer

Position Overview:

We have an outstanding opportunity for a financial leader with experience in a community bank or credit union. Our client, a private, locally owned community bank in New Haven Connecticut, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to succeed their retiring CFO.

This is more than just a financial oversight role—it’s a true leadership opportunity. The CFO will go beyond managing financial data—translating complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for the Board and executive team. This leader will play a key role in shaping the bank’s strategy, using financial analysis to drive decision-making and chart a path for long-term success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee accounting, financial reporting, asset/liability management, and treasury/investments
  • Provide the CEO and Board of Directors with clear and timely financial insights
  • Manage cash flow, investments, borrowing, and overall liquidity
  • Conduct stress testing and scenario analysis to assess financial impact
  • Ensure the Investment Policy remains current and aligned with best practices
  • Lead regulatory reporting, tax filings, and audits
  • Develop and enforce financial policies, internal controls, and compliance measures
  • Support CDFI-related activities and grant applications
  • Prepare and implement CECL models

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
  • Experience in banking or credit unions preferred
  • Proven leadership and team management experience
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage executive leadership and Boards of Directors
  • Deep understanding of regulatory reporting, risk management, and financial compliance
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive, solution-focused approach to financial leadership

Why Join the Bank?

  • A work environment that values strategic thinking without unnecessary corporate formalities
  • An opportunity to achieve a better work-life balance
  • A seat at the table—your voice will be heard with minimal bureaucracy
  • A mission-driven organization serving the local community
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package including Health, Dental, Vision, 401(k) & PTO
