We are seeking a skilled GIS/Construction Field Engineer Specialist to join our innovative team. This role combines cutting-edge geospatial technology with precise engineering to ensure construction projects are executed with maximum accuracy and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have expertise in GPS layout systems, drone operation, and advanced survey technologies, including Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), LIDAR, and photogrammetry. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of traditional surveying and emerging digital technologies in the construction industry.

Responsible for performing skilled digital mapping involving the preparation and maintenance of digital maps and providing Geographic Information System (GIS) support. Also responsible for systems analysis, maintenance, and update of the Geographic Information System (GIS) data, as well as implementing precise geospatial data collection and layout services for construction projects. This full-time position requires expertise in both field work and technical data processing. You will report directly to the Survey Manager or Project Superintendent and play a critical role in ensuring construction accuracy from groundbreaking through project completion.

Responsible for the highly technical work that is involved in analyzing, evaluating and enhancing of the existing Geographic Information System (GIS) and will assist in designing solutions and technical procedures to process GIS data. Also utilizes Geographic Information System techniques to provide a better understanding of certain variables in a given geographic location. Extracts data from GIS software and uses varying analysis methods to arrive at results.

Tasks:

  • Prepares and maintains digital maps and provides Geographic Information System (GIS) support. Converts hand drawn maps into a digital format for use in a Geographic Information System (GIS) database.

  • Serves as a technician on projects involving GIS studies that require data creation, editing and manipulation and provides supportive mapping data and analysis upon request.

  • Maintains a variety of spatial data layers and associated attributes.

  • Produces printed maps, showing a variety of map features.

  • Well verse in the precepts and practices, including, but are not limited to, Geo-reference imagery, reading and interpreting engineering plans, survey drawings, design plans, etc.

  • Imports, edits and converts AutoCAD files to ESRI features.

  • Creates reports using ArcGIS software.

  • Utilizes Geographic Information System techniques to provide a better understanding of certain variables in a given geographic location among varying types of data such as spatial and database analysis.

  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the fields of Land Surveying, Urban Development, Utilities and Environmental Studies.

  • Maintains current knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment and/or systems. Maintains knowledge and continues to educate on the trends and practices of the field.

  • Operate advanced GPS layout systems to perform construction staking with precision of ±2mm, ensuring all elements are positioned according to engineering specifications
  • Plan and execute drone flight missions for aerial mapping, volumetric calculations, and 3D modeling of construction sites
  • Process and analyze survey data using specialized software to generate accurate site models and layout coordinates
  • Conduct subsurface utility detection using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology
  • Perform LIDAR scanning for precise topographical mapping and as-built documentation
  • Apply photogrammetry techniques to create detailed visual records and measurements of construction progress
  • Interpret construction plans and translate complex design data into field layout instructions
  • Maintain calibration and proper functioning of all survey equipment
  • Communicate findings and coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports documenting survey results and construction layout activities
  • Well versed in the precepts and practices, including, but are not limited to, Geo-reference imagery, reading and interpreting engineering plans, survey drawings, design plans, etc.

  • Maintains and updates spatial data layers and associated attributes using GIS, creates reports, and quality map products using ArcGIS software.

  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the fields of Land Surveying, Urban Development, Utilities and Environmental Studies.

  • Maintains current knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment and/or systems. Maintains knowledge and continues to educate on the trends and practices of the field.

  • Provides training and technical assistance to GIS end users.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Geomatics, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering or related field with Geographic Information System (GIS) coursework is required. Certification as Geographic Information System Professional (GISP) is preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of GIS experience with at least two (2) years of experience working with ArcGIS Databases, AutoCAD and knowledge and understanding of GPS hardware and software packages. Knowledge and understanding of GIS/GPS database and principles, database, cartographic, geographic, statistical and mathematical theory sufficient to perform geographic analyses is required.
