About being our Construction Management Intern

As our Construction Management Intern, you will be part of Psomas' Construction Management (CM) Group, while supporting specific assignments for the Chico CM Team. This team specializes in managing the construction of transportation and public works infrastructure projects in the Northern Sacramento Valley, Yuba City, Chico, and surrounding areas. With the benefit of in person supervision, you will experience a collaborative team environment and gain hands-on, real-world experience to compliment your academic achievements. You will have the opportunity to practice what you are learning, while building upon your technical skills, abilities, and knowledge. You will support the project team with project submittal reviews, taking photos of operations in progress, attending project meetings as requested, schedule reviews, project record keeping assistance, technical calculations, and other responsibilities of field personnel. Our CM staff work in the field on project sites; therefore, candidates must reside locally and/or be able to make the daily commute.

This opportunity is for a summer internship with a flexible duration, tentatively May 2026 through August 2026 to work on assignments in Chico and the surrounding region. Hands on project experience may include roads, highway, bridges, structures, streetscapes, and capital improvements and may include exposure to a variety of civil, mechanical, electrical and structural elements. This role is estimated to work up to 40 hours/week, which unless otherwise specified is Monday - Friday. Students who attend college locally may have the opportunity to extend their internship into the Fall on a part-time basis.


Responsibility Highlights for our Construction Management Intern

  • Observe heavy civil construction activities including using photography to document operations in progress for compliance with the plans and specifications
  • Assist the project team with submittal reviews, technical calculations, document management, and attending meetings


Minimum Qualifications to be our Construction Management Intern

  • Must be a current college/university student pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work on an active construction site, including walking over uneven terrain, climbing ladders, crawling, stooping and entering confined spaces, being outdoors in inclement weather, wearing proper safety equipment, and practicing industry safety protocols


Preferred Qualifications for our Construction Management Intern

  • Currently attending college in Chico and/or consider Chico and/or the surrounding area their home when not attending college
  • Prior internship experience and/or relevant experience
  • Knowledge of the construction process and the ability to read, understand, and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Experience working in a California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) construction office and/or familiarity with Caltrans Standards, Specifications, and Construction Manual
