Job Description

Machine Shop Supervisor

WB Industries is seeking a skilled Machine Shop Supervisor to lead operations in our machining department. This position plays a key role in coordinating production, maintaining quality standards, and leading a team of machinists to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily machine shop operations and managing workflow across multiple machining centers. This role works closely with the Production Manager, Project Managers, and Planning to understand project expectations, develop machine shop schedules, and ensure production goals are met. The supervisor will also communicate project status with internal departments, subcontractors, and customers as needed to keep projects moving forward.

Safety and organization are critical parts of this role. The supervisor must understand the safety considerations of the equipment, processes, and materials used in the department and help reinforce safe work practices through training and leadership. Maintaining high standards of housekeeping, cleanliness, and organization within the shop is an important expectation.

Quality oversight is another key responsibility. The Machine Shop Supervisor must maintain a strong understanding of job quality requirements including logs, inspections, methods, and tooling. This role performs in-process inspections of work within the department to ensure parts meet specifications and customer requirements.

This position also provides leadership and development for the machining team. Responsibilities include supporting employee growth and development, assisting with department training plans, and ensuring employee performance reviews and development plans are completed on schedule.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in CNC machining and a strong understanding of machining operations in a manufacturing environment. Candidates should be comfortable managing jobs of varying complexity, interpreting engineered drawings, and maintaining tight tolerances. A working knowledge of GD&T, inspection tools, welding principles, and machining processes is important. Candidates should also have strong communication skills and be comfortable working with systems such as MasterCAM, ERP systems, CAD software, and Microsoft Office.

Qualified candidates should have an associate degree in a technical or manufacturing-related field and at least 10 years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the metal fabrication industry. Prior leadership or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.

This position supervises approximately 2-10 employees and is an on-site role that works within both office and production environments. The position may require standing for extended periods and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Travel is minimal and expected to be less than 10%.

WB Industries is a custom metal fabrication and precision machining company producing everything from small machined components to large structural fabrications and aircraft-size tooling. If you enjoy leading skilled machinists, solving production challenges, and keeping projects moving from raw material to finished product, we encourage you to apply.
