The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, providing training, and making workflow recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens.
- Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures.
- Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to established procedures.
- Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Fully understand and execute physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and label centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
- Ensure 100% accuracy by checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
- Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.
Essential Skills
- Phlebotomy certification
- Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
- 2 plus years of phlebotomist experience
- Experience with pediatric and healthcare environments
- Proficiency in drawing blood and specimen collection
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment
- High School Diploma or GED
- OBGYN experience preferred
- IOP experience
Work Environment
The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. The role requires traveling between Warrenton and Manassas for coverage. The position offers great health benefits upon permanent employment.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
