Aalis Management Consulting is seeking a meticulous and experienced Classification & Position Management Specialist to provide critical support in developing, classifying, and managing position descriptions (PDs). This role is central to ensuring organizational clarity, equity, and compliance. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader in the end-to-end classification process, from initial information gathering to final submission, while serving as a trusted advisor to both managers and HR personnel on all matters of position management and organizational design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end process for drafting, reviewing, and refining position descriptions (PDs), ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with relevant classification standards (e.g., OPM, GS scale).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders throughout the entire classification request lifecycle, from initiation to final decision, providing timely updates and managing expectations.
- Conduct thorough interviews and information-gathering sessions with managers and subject matter experts to accurately capture position duties, responsibilities, and qualifications.
- Prepare and submit complete classification requests for processing, ensuring all supporting documentation and justifications are included.
- Provide expert technical advice and assistance to managers and personnel on the resolution of complex classification and position management issues.
- Advise on the complexities of organizational structure, recommending solutions for aligning positions with strategic goals and operational needs.
- Analyze current classification and position management processes to identify areas for improvement, increase efficiency, and enhance service delivery.
- Maintain a current understanding of federal classification laws, regulations, and precedents to ensure all advice and PDs are fully compliant.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3+ years of direct, hands-on experience in federal position classification and position description writing.
- Demonstrated expertise with Office of Personnel Management (OPM) classification standards, guidelines, and job grading systems.
- Proven experience managing the full lifecycle of classification requests from start to finish.
- Strong interviewing, research, and analytical skills to accurately capture and document position requirements.
- Exceptional writing skills with the ability to draft clear, precise, and compelling position descriptions and justification statements.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to serve as a primary point of contact and explain complex concepts to non-experts.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Federal Position Classification.
- Experience providing classification support within a consulting or professional services environment.
- Deep understanding of position management principles and their application within broader organizational design.
- Experience with process improvement methodologies.
