A state government agency seeks qualified professionals to serve as Child Access Case Screening Consultants for judicial family services. This remote position involves conducting confidential virtual interviews with parties in child access cases to assess safety concerns and determine appropriateness for mediation referral pursuant to Maryland Rule 9-205.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct confidential virtual interviews with parties in child access cases using Zoom platform
- Utilize the Mediator's Assessment of Safety Issues and Concerns - Short (MASIC-S) screening tool via Qualtrics
- Screen cases for intimate partner violence, domestic violence, and/or child abuse
- Make recommendations to courts regarding case appropriateness for mediation referral
- Document findings and report time for each screening and administrative tasks through case management system
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all security protocols
- Work flexible hours including evenings and weekends to accommodate party availability
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, human services, counseling, or similar field
- Ability to work 100% remote from suitable location within the United States
- Strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality
- Excellent interview and communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Proficiency with technology platforms (Zoom, Qualtrics, online systems)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in social work, psychology, human services, counseling, or similar field
- 3+ years experience conducting interviews with clients/patients/parties in clinical or court-related settings
- Knowledge of intimate partner violence, domestic violence, and child abuse issues
- Experience working with traumatized populations
- Ability to interact sensitively with diverse populations
- Strong organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines
Work Environment & Schedule
- 100% remote work from home office or suitable private location
- Flexible scheduling required: Monday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM EDT
- Anticipated 20-40 hours per week of screening and administrative work
- Must maintain professional, distraction-free environment during virtual interviews
- Camera must be on during all interviews and meetings
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive hourly rate based on qualifications and experience
- Compensation includes scheduling, interviewing, and reporting time
- Billing in 15-minute increments, rounded up
- Access to necessary technology platforms provided (Zoom, Qualtrics, case management system, phone capabilities)

- 1-hour virtual interview via Microsoft Teams
- Camera required to be on for duration of interview
- Assessment of skills, experience, and capabilities outlined above
Background & Security Requirements
- Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check required
- Compliance with agency security policies
- Non-disclosure agreement required
- May require security identification badge
Note: This is a contract position with no guaranteed minimum hours. Work availability depends on case volume and court needs.
