Company Overview
About Leading Edge Administrators:
Leading Edge Administrators (LEA) is a forward-thinking Third-Party Administrator (TPA) dedicated to transforming healthcare benefits administration through technology, innovation, and service excellence. LEA partners with employers, brokers, and healthcare providers to deliver fully integrated administrative solutions.
The company currently serves over 100 self-insured entities, representing nearly 300,000 insured lives across a wide range of areas, including labor unions, educational institutions, manufacturing companies, retail stores, and home health care agencies. LEA operates with a total US employee size of approximately 225 people, and is growing, in addition to contract and offshore teams.
LEA combines deep industry expertise with modern digital tools, advanced analytics, and a commitment to transparency. LEA empowers clients to manage costs, improve outcomes, and deliver a better benefits experience for all stakeholders.
LEA has grown rapidly over its 12-year history and now stands at an inflection point: professionalize operations, broaden and diversify the customer base, and scale with discipline—while preserving the entrepreneurial, employee-centric culture that has set LEA apart and powered its success.
Position Summary
The CEO is accountable for enterprise strategy, growth, operational excellence, culture, and value creation. This leader will take LEA from a founder-led model to a professionally run, metric-driven enterprise—reducing customer concentration,
elevating execution across technology, operations, sales, and the back office, and building a durable, employee-centric organization.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Growth
- Define and communicate a multi-year strategy that positions LEA as a modern, trusted TPA partner.
- Develop and execute a diversification plan that reduces customer concentration and expands channels with employers, brokers, and health plans.
- Own the commercial agenda: market segmentation, pipeline health, pricing discipline, win rates, and profitable growth.
- Evaluate strategic partnerships and selective M&A to accelerate capability and market access.
Operational Excellence
- Install an operating cadence (MBRs/QBRs), KPIs, and dashboards that drive accountability, transparency, and timely course-correction.
- Professionalize core functions (claims/admin operations, client service, implementations, finance, HR, legal/compliance).
- Embed lean/continuous-improvement practices to increase throughput, quality, and margin; standardize processes without losing speed.
Technology & Data (Enterprise Oversight)
- Ensure technology, data, security, and compliance investments deliver reliability, interoperability, and superior client/member experience.
- Drive disciplined buy-vs-build decisions and sequence a pragmatic roadmap balancing quick wins with platform evolution.
Leadership, Culture & Talent
- Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing, cross-functional leadership team; put the right people in the right roles with clear accountability.
- Maintain and strengthen LEA’s employee-centric culture—a differentiator that has set LEA apart—while scaling discipline and performance.
- Foster a culture of ownership, empathy, collaboration, and continuous improvement with clear goals and consequences.
- Lead change with crisp, consistent communication with employees, clients, and the Board.
Governance, Finance & Risk
- Deliver plan commitments for revenue, EBITDA, cash, and working capital; manage pricing and unit economics.
- Strengthen controls, vendor governance, and audit readiness (HIPAA/SOC); ensure ethical, compliant operations.
- Provide timely, insight-rich reporting to the Board; steward strategic initiatives and enterprise risk management.
Candidate Profile
Required Experience
- Proven record scaling an entrepreneurial services/technology business into a professional, metrics-driven enterprise.
- Success diversifying revenue and channels within healthcare/insurance services, benefits administration, or adjacent payer/TPA ecosystems.
- Depth in operational excellence: implementing operating cadences, dashboards, KPI management, and lean/CI programs.
- Direct leadership of a cross-functional executive team (technology, operations, commercial, finance, HR) with tangible talent upgrades.
- Strong financial acumen: pricing, budgeting, forecasting, unit economics, and value-creation planning.
Leadership & Style
- Builder-operator who balances strategic vision with hands-on execution.
- Empathetic, transparent communicator who creates followership through clarity, consistency, and credibility.
- Customer-centric mindset and executive presence with employer, broker, and plan stakeholders.
- Decisive, data-driven, and resilient; able to professionalize without losing speed or entrepreneurial energy.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive leadership; prior CEO/President/GM (P&L) experience strongly preferred.
- Healthcare/insurance services background required; TPA/benefits administration experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success reducing customer concentration and broadening distribution.
- Familiarity with HIPAA/SOC governance and the intersection of technology, data, and operations in a TPA.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
Success Metrics (First 12 Months)
- Diversification: Reduced customer concentration; new multi-year client wins across targeted segments.
- Operating Discipline: KPI dashboard and MBR/QBR cadence in place; SLA adherence; incident and rework reduction.
- Financial Outcomes: Delivery vs. plan on revenue, EBITDA margin expansion, cash conversion.
- Talent: Upgraded leadership bench and clear org design with succession for critical roles.
- Client Experience: Higher NPS/CSAT, faster implementations, improved digital adoption and reporting quality.
Compensation
Competitive package comprising base salary, performance-based bonus, and a long-term incentive/equity component aligned to value creation.
