How You'll Contribute
The Nursing Supervisor coordinates the activities of the hospital on evening/night/weekend shifts to maintain 24-hour nursing administrative coverage. The Nursing Supervisor supervises and directs nursing personnel and monitors staffing and skill mix for appropriate staffing levels in the absence of the Nursing Director. Serves as a clinical resource for the nursing staff, assisting with problem solving in determining interventions as appropriate for the patient age and clinical situation. Serves as a resource for Charge Nurses.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Associate's degree (required)
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Current RN license in state of practice
- Experience and expertise in management either in front line or shift supervisory work.
- Recommend 2-3 years of recent experience in a healthcare setting.
- Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) is required within 30 days of hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 6 months of employment.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of employment

- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Essential Functions
- Provides Clinical Leadership
- Identifies and communicates appropriately all department needs and works with other towards resolution.
- Mentors' others to recognize changes in patient status and assists in the management of complex and or unpredictable patients.
- Delegates care based on the needs of the patients or staff competency/qualifications.
- Communicates with Manager and other healthcare providers in a timely and professional manner
Non-Essential Functions
Safety:
- Identifies potential safety hazards in work areas and takes appropriate action to ensure safety of self and others.
- Identifies potential safety hazards or problems in work areas.
- Takes appropriate measures for safety of self and others in work area.
- Reports and/or communicates correct information concerning safety hazards to appropriate personnel.
Treatment Planning and Implementation:
- Independently assesses patient and develops treatment plan.
- Assesses patient status and needs.
- Develops and implements appropriate plans of care based on assessment.
- Develops plan of care that is consistent with other discipline and coordinates with other departments/personnel to ensure plan is implemented.
- Documents plan and its administration, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations, policies and procedures.
- Includes discharge planning in the plan of care.
- Involves patient and family in the plan of care.
Clinical Communication:
- Maintain and coordinate communication among patient, family members, staff and physician as evidenced within medical record and patient.
- Assure that effective communication exists with patient as reflected in the plan of care.
- Give punctual change of shift report consisting of pertinent and relevant information for assigned patient
- Inform appropriate personnel of patient's changing needs and plan of care.
- Report patient needs/problems and observations regarding patient's condition.
- Accurately transcribe physician and other healthcare professional orders.
Patient/Family Education:
- Provide health education to patient and family members.
- Use available materials specific to patient conditions or diseases.
- Use appropriate teaching methods such as demonstration, discussion, and one on one instructions.
- Document health education including patient/family member response to and understanding of instruction.
Patient Assessment:
- Complete thorough assessment of patient according to professional standard and hospital policy.
- Assess patient by collecting and documenting the patient's current health status and medical history to include physical, psychological, and social issues.
- Complete and/or review admission forms as defined by policy and procedure.
- Make ongoing assessment of patient's status and respond appropriately.
- Document all assessment in a timely and accurate fashion in compliance with applicable regulations, policies and procedures.
- Perform ongoing assessment and revise plan of care based on new data and patient's condition.
Nursing Care:
- Deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
- Administer medications according to policy and procedure.
- Administer IV's according to policy and procedure.
- Observe and document patient's response to pertinent medications.
- Demonstrate ability and appropriate technical skills and competencies when administering treatments and procedures in accordance with physician's order and policy and procedure.
- Demonstrate necessary skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to division/unit specific competencies.
- Provide personal patient care to provide comfort and well-being to patient, acknowledging physiological and psychological needs.
