Job DescriptionJob Summary
- Treats and transports sick or injured persons to medical facility.
General Accountabilities
- Responds to instructions from emergency medical dispatcher and drives emergency vehicle to specified location.
- Maintains contact with dispatcher.
- Determines nature and extent of illness or injury to establish necessary first aid procedures or need for additional assistance.
- Administers prescribed first aid treatment at site of emergency, or in specially equipped vehicle.
- Communicates with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding further treatment and to arrange for reception of victims at treatment facility.
- Assists in removal of patients from emergency scene and transfer of patients to treatment center.
- Assists admitting personnel in obtaining and recording information related to patient's vital statistics and circumstances of emergency.
- Maintains emergency vehicles and medical and communication equipment.
- Assists professional medical personnel in emergency treatment administered at medical facility.
- Turns in appropriate documentation in a timely fashion.

Job Qualifications
- Education: Paramedic, ACLS, PALS, ITLS, CPR
- Experience: EMT-P, NREMT, and the ability to obtain UPMC Medical Command
