PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Safety Specialist plays a key role in strategically implementing safety measures throughout all areas of the company’s operations. The Safety Specialist leads strategic execution of front-line safety programs, to achieve a target of zero harm.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Develops, implements, maintains, and assesses the effectiveness of safety programs that comply with OSHA and MSHA regulations and industry best practices.
· Coordinates and facilitates employee safety training.
· Evaluates, recommends, and implements measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous methods, practices, or processes.
· Inspects and evaluates workplace tasks, equipment, and behavior to ensure safety of personnel.
· Maintains training records and progression paths for employees.
· Provides guidance to project leaders about risks and opportunities identified within their operational area.
· Assists project leaders with investigation efforts, following incident events.
· Understands regulatory requirements and remains abreast of changes in regulatory standards.
· Strives for continuous personal improvement by pursuing growth opportunities.
· Directly oversees and guides the initial training and integration of newly hired employees into their roles.
· Assesses PPE need and manages inventories.
· Monitors, coaches, and alerts management to patterns of high-risk tolerance amongst field teams.
· Identifies potential for unfavorable events and proactively intervenes.
· Leads or participates in formal Risk Assessment & Mitigation processes.
· Other safety-related responsibilities, as may be directed by the Safety Manager.
· Conducts in-field health sampling and advises management on necessary controls.
· Assists development of Policies, Plans, and Procedures related to safe production.
· Leads continuous improvement efforts.
· Shadows and fills in for Safety Manager in their absence.

Requirements:
· Must have a valid driver’s license with less than (3) moving violations in (3) years
· Must be able to pass drug / alcohol screenings
· Must be able to lift at least 40lbs
WORKING CONDITIONS
Demands:
The Safety Specialist has a physically strenuous job. He/she will be lifting, pulling and maneuvering heavy equipment and objects. They must strive to ensure that all activities are completed in a safe and efficient manner.
Environmental Conditions:
The Safety Specialist must work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat. He/she may at times be exposed to hazardous substances and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation and infection.
Sensory Demands:
He/she may at times be exposed to potentially hazardous substances and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose, lungs, and skin from irritation and infection.
Mental Demands:
The Safety Specialist must work both independently and with the team, and is expected to maintain their schedule appropriately, to deliver on sometimes highly constrained commitment deadlines.
