Position Summary

A Dental Hygienist provides preventive oral care, conducts patient screenings, educates patients on oral hygiene, and supports dentists in delivering high‐quality dental services. This role focuses on promoting oral health, preventing disease, and creating a positive patient experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Care & Preventive Treatment
    • Perform dental prophylaxis, including scaling, polishing, and root planing.
    • Apply sealants and fluoride treatments.
    • Take and interpret dental radiographs (X‐rays).
    • Conduct oral cancer screenings and head/neck assessments.
    • Evaluate periodontal health and document findings for the dentist.
  • Patient Education
    • Teach proper brushing, flossing, and oral hygiene techniques.
    • Provide nutritional counseling related to oral health.
    • Explain treatment recommendations and preventive strategies.
  • Clinical Support
    • Prepare and sterilize instruments and operatory rooms following OSHA and infection control standards.
    • Maintain accurate clinical records and charting.
    • Assist the dentist with exams or procedures when needed.
    • Review and update medical histories and vital signs.
  • Administrative Duties (as applicable)
    • Schedule follow‐up appointments.
    • Maintain inventory of hygiene-related supplies.
    • Document treatment plans and patient progress.
  • Qualifications & Requirements
  • Dental Hygienist license (state-specific)
  • Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program (Associate or Bachelor’s degree)
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
  • Strong communication and patient‐relationship skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the dental team
  • Knowledge of dental software (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental—depending on the clinic)
