TheStaff Accountant is a comprehensive financial role that combines meticulous transactional bookkeeping with analytical accounting functions. This position serves as the financial operations backbone, ensuring accurate day-to-day records, regulatory compliance, and timely financial insights that support strategic decision-making.
Duties & Responsibilities
Core Bookkeeping & Transaction Management
- Categorize and post all financial transactions accurately using QuickBooks Online and other accounting software.
- Process and manage accounts payable and accounts receivable workflows.
- Handle invoicing, customer payments, and systematic collections follow-up.
- Perform daily bank account and credit card statement reconciliations.
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Prepare and post accurate journal entries for accruals, prepaid expenses, and other adjustments.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Set up and maintain proper sales tax rates in accounting systems.
- Generate internal financial statements, performance dashboards, and management reports.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure accurate reporting of income, expenses, and balance sheet items.
Payroll & Compliance Management
- Process payroll with accuracy and timeliness, ensuring proper documentation.
- Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal financial reporting requirements.
- Support audit preparation and coordinate with external accountants and tax professionals.
- Ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Strategic Support & Process Improvement
- Analyze financial performance trends and provide insights to support business decisions.
- Recommend and implement financial process improvements and internal controls.
- Assist with contract review and financial obligation tracking.
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in bookkeeping and accounting roles.
- Experience in small to medium-sized businesses, consulting, or service-based environments preferred.
