Director of Nursing (DON) – LTC / Nursing Home
Facility: Sunny Acres (Menard County), Petersburg, IL
Contract: 13 Weeks
Schedule: Days | 40 Hours Guaranteed
Pay Rate: $2,400 to $2,600 per week
Position Summary
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all nursing services within the long-term care facility. The DON ensures high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, staff development, and effective clinical operations in accordance with Illinois state regulations and federal guidelines (CMS).
This role serves as the clinical leader of the facility and works closely with the Administrator, medical providers, residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership

Direct and oversee all nursing operations (RNs, LPNs, CNAs).

Ensure delivery of high-quality, person-centered care.

Monitor resident assessments, care plans, and clinical documentation.

Ensure appropriate staffing levels for safe patient care.
Regulatory Compliance

Maintain compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) regulations.

Ensure adherence to CMS and federal long-term care standards.

Lead survey preparedness and manage plans of correction.

Oversee infection control, medication management, and quality assurance programs.
Staff Management
-
Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate nursing staff.

Conduct performance reviews and disciplinary actions as needed.

Provide mentorship and professional development.

Promote teamwork and positive work culture.
Quality & Performance Improvement
-
Lead Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.

Monitor clinical indicators (falls, pressure ulcers, infections, rehospitalizations).

Implement corrective actions when necessary.
Administrative Duties

Participate in budgeting and resource planning.

Collaborate with Administrator on facility operations.

Communicate effectively with residents, families, and physicians.

Maintain accurate and compliant clinical records.
Minimum Requirements – Illinois Director of Nursing
Licensure
-
Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.

License must be in good standing.
Education
-
Associate Degree in Nursing (minimum).
-
BSN preferred.
-
Master’s degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration (preferred but not required).
Experience
-
Minimum 2–3 years clinical nursing experience.
-
Minimum 1–2 years leadership/supervisory experience.
-
Strong preference for long-term care or skilled nursing facility experience.
-
Prior DON or Assistant DON experience highly preferred.
Certifications
-
Current BLS (Basic Life Support).
-
Infection control training (preferred).
-
IV certification (preferred).
Knowledge & Skills
-
Strong understanding of:

CMS regulations
-
Illinois LTC regulations
-
Survey process and plans of correction

Care planning and MDS coordination

Experience with Electronic Medical Records (e.g., PointClickCare or similar).

Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to manage conflict and make sound clinical decisions.
