Job Description

About Veterinary United
Veterinary United is an independent, family-owned network of veterinary practices across Southeast Michigan. For more than 25 years, we’ve built teams that believe in doing the right thing for people, pets, and each other. With 20+ clinics and a growing support center, we are committed to creating an environment where our teams feel supported, valued, and empowered to do their best work every day.

As we continue to grow, we are expanding our People Operations team and looking for an HR Generalist who is passionate about delivering exceptional employee support and reinforcing a healthy, people-first culture.

About the Role

The HR Generalist is an integral member of the People Operations team, providing day-to-day support to employees and leaders across our organization. This role ensures consistent, efficient HR processes—particularly around onboarding, employee relations, HR compliance, and the administration of employee programs.

You’ll work closely with clinic leaders and the support center to maintain smooth operations, assist team members with questions, and help strengthen systems that support a positive employee experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employees and leaders regarding HR policies, employee support, and general inquiries

  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring all documentation, systems, and communications are accurate and timely

  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of employee records, job changes, and compliance documentation within the HRIS

  • Assist with company-wide initiatives such as annual updates, program rollouts, and internal communications

  • Provide guidance on HR policies, procedures, and employee relations matters while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality

  • Support employee program administration, including leave requests, changes in employment status, and periodic company processes

  • Assist with compensation updates, job descriptions, and alignment of roles

  • Help maintain HR reporting, auditing, and ongoing process improvements

  • Assist with interpersonal relations among practices

  • Participate in employee engagement efforts, training coordination, and culture-building initiatives

  • Collaborate with the People Operations team to ensure consistent practices across all VU locations

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of HR experience in a generalist or coordinator capacity

  • Strong understanding of HR processes, compliance, and the employee lifecycle

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

  • High level of detail orientation and ability to handle confidential information with discretion

  • Experience with HRIS platforms and comfort navigating multiple systems

  • Strong follow-through, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience supporting employee programs, leave administration, or similar HR functions is a plus

  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification is helpful, but not required

Why Veterinary United?

  • A family-owned organization that puts people first

  • A culture built on our core values: Inspire, Empower, Lead, Evolve, Believe

  • Opportunity to help shape and strengthen a growing People Operations function

  • Supportive leadership, a collaborative team, and the ability to make a meaningful impact

  • Competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package
