Job Summary: Ensure and enhance the health and well-being of our Residents by providing direct, routine nursing care and assisting with activities of daily living
Nursing Care Functions
- Assists with personal cares including bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting
- Follows all routines, policies, and procedures to accurately measure and record vital signs, weights, food and fluid intake and output, bowel movements per facility protocol
- Delivers meals, assists with eating, and promptly reports any chewing or swallowing difficulties to the charge nurse
- Assists with the restorative nursing program to include passive and active range of motion and ambulation with appropriate assistive devices
- Assists in safe transfers using a transfer belt, device, or appropriate lift
- Answers call lights promptly and determines resident needs
- Changes bed linens and ensures that beds are neatly made
- Ensures that residents are clean, neatly dressed, and well-groomed
- Reports promptly to the charge nurse any signs of resident illness or changes in condition, to include skin condition and mental status
- Reports to the charge nurse any accidents or incidents involving residents and visitors
- Immediately reports any suspected abuse or neglect per facility policy
- Remains aware and takes precautions to ensure a clean and safe environment for residents and staff
- Other duties and responsibilities as directed by licensed staff or supervisors
Personnel Functions
- Attends designated nursing meetings as scheduled
- Develops and maintains a good working relationship with other staff, whether within the nursing department or inter-departmental personnel
- Completes assigned training and obtains at least 12 hours of continuing education per year
- Utilizes materials and supplies in an efficient, cost-effective manner
- Follows all facility policies and procedures
- Follows standard precautions and works within OSHA guidelines
- Reports any equipment malfunction to the designated staff member
- Remain free of criminal conviction that may preclude employment in the nursing home setting (including but not limited to theft, battery, assault)
- Reports any pending criminal or civil charges or matters to the Administrator by the next business day
- Always represents the United Pioneer Home in a positive manner unless contraindicated by law
Requirements:
Qualifications
- Certification through a state-approved nursing assistant course or enrolled in approved course
- Must be current on the Wisconsin State Registry within 120 days of hire
Other Skills and Abilities required
- Demonstrated concern for the elderly and ability to treat Residents with respect and dignity
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of Resident information, as per HIPAA regulations
- Strong time management and teamwork skills
- Ability to understand and follow work assignments and interventions in resident care plans
- Customer service oriented
- Adequate strength and endurance to meet the strenuous physical demands of resident care responsibilities such as lifting and moving residents
- Coordination and dexterity required to provide resident care skillfully
- Ability to work as scheduled and adapt to changes in bi-weekly work schedule
Physical Requirements
- Ability to endure prolonged walking, sitting, standing, use of pulling, bending, and stooping movements
- Able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds
- Be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability
- Achieve negative assessment for infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB)
- Remain free of illegal drug use and signs of impairment as per facility policy
