Job DescriptionPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Transportation/Transit Advisory Expert to support a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) proposal as a subject matter advisor. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in transportation research and development (R&D), transportation innovation, and federally funded research initiatives. This individual will provide strategic guidance on the technical approach, strengthen the proposal's credibility, and serve as an advisor throughout the proposal development process.Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Transportation and Transit Subject Matter Expert (SME) for an SBIR proposal.
  • Provide strategic guidance on transportation innovation, emerging technologies, and research methodologies.
  • Advise on technical approaches aligned with federal transportation priorities and R&D objectives.
  • Review proposal content and provide recommendations to improve the technical quality and competitiveness of the proposal.
  • Contribute a professional biography highlighting relevant expertise and accomplishments.
  • Provide consulting rate information for proposal budgeting purposes.
  • Sign a brief Letter of Support or Advisor Commitment for inclusion in the proposal, if selected.
  • Participate in periodic meetings with the proposal team during the proposal development phase.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Transportation Systems, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in transportation research, innovation, or transit program management.
  • Active or previous affiliation with the Transportation Research Board (TRB) or similar organizations such as AASHTO, ITS America, ITE, CUTR, or other leading transportation research institutions.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting federally funded research programs, including SBIR, STTR, USDOT, FHWA, FTA, NSF, or similar initiatives.
  • Proven expertise in transportation systems, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), mobility, transit operations, infrastructure, autonomous transportation, connected vehicles, or related areas.
  • Experience serving as a Principal Investigator, Technical Advisor, Research Lead, or Consultant on transportation R&D projects.
  • Strong understanding of federal grant processes and proposal development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
