Job DescriptionWe are looking for a skilled Senior Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Portland, Maine. This role involves managing core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with established standards. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in accounting practices and exceptional organizational skills to deliver high-quality results.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate completion.
• Maintain and update the general ledger with all necessary adjustments.
• Prepare and post journal entries while ensuring proper documentation.
• Reconcile accounts, including bank accounts, to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Generate financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends and discrepancies.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with other departments to address accounting-related needs.
• Provide support during audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.• Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a senior role.
• Proficiency in managing month-end close processes and general ledger activities.
• Extensive knowledge of journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Strong ability to create and analyze financial reports.
• Familiarity with compliance standards and internal control practices.
• Advanced Excel skills for financial analysis and reporting.
• Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
