Job DescriptionJob Title: Duct Cleaner Job
Location: Varies Position Type: Full-Time Job Overview: We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Duct Cleaner to join our team. This role is labor- intensive involves a variety of tasks related to the cleaning, refurbishment, and maintenance of HVAC systems, including the inspection, cleaning, and refurbishment of air ducts, air handling units (AHUs), and other associated components.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with specialized duct cleaning equipment and tools while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and quality. Duct Cleaners are part of SMART Local 105 Union.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Reading and Interpreting Blueprints: o Review and interpret blueprints and system diagrams to accurately locate and identify ductwork and associated components.
2. Locating AHUs and Ductwork: o Identify and locate air handling units (AHUs) along with the corresponding ductwork for cleaning and maintenance.
3. Setting Up Equipment: o Set up and operate specialized cleaning equipment, including HEPA vacuums, HEPA negative air machines, rotary cobra, and air compressors.
4. Tool and Equipment Usage: o Utilize a range of tools and equipment necessary for efficient and effective duct cleaning.
5. AHU Refurbishment: o Perform refurbishment tasks on AHUs, including cleaning and maintenance of mixing boxes, filter rooms, fan boxes, coils, and return and supply plenums within the system.
6. Cutting Access Doors: o Cut and install access doors into return, supply, and exhaust ductwork as required for cleaning and maintenance.
7. Ductwork Cleaning: o Perform cleaning of ductwork using various specialized tools and equipment, ensuring that all systems are thoroughly cleaned and debris-free.
8. Cleaning Components Within Ductwork: o Clean and sanitize all components within the duct system, including turning blades, dampers, insulation, and branches.
9. Refurbishing Insulation: o Clean and refurbish duct insulation, including spot welding Astro shield and applying anti-microbial encapsulation on insulation to prevent mold and bacteria buildup.
10. Patching Access Doors: Patch access doors using sheet metal and internal/external insulation as needed, ensuring that ductwork integrity is maintained.
11. QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control): o Perform quality control checks to ensure that all work complies with industry standards and company specifications.
12. Jobsite Safety: o Adhere to all safety protocols, including ladder safety, confined space entry, personal protective equipment (PPE), respiratory fitness, and lockout/tagout procedures.
13. Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning Procedure: o Prepare the kitchen area by covering all equipment with protective plastic sheeting o Pressure wash kitchen hoods, ductwork, and rooftop exhaust fans to remove grease and buildup. o Wipe down the kitchen hood to ensure a clean and polished finish. o Perform QA/QC to verify the kitchen is left clean and all equipment remains undamaged.
Skills & Qualifications: Experience: Prior experience in duct cleaning, HVAC systems, or related fields preferred.
Technical Skills: Familiarity with HEPA vacuums, rotary cobras, air compressors, and other HVAC cleaning equipment. Safety Awareness: Knowledge of jobsite safety, including ladder safety, confined space entry, PPE, and lockout/tagout procedures. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and perform physical labor for extended periods. Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail in all aspects of work, ensuring thorough cleaning and refurbishment of duct systems. Certifications: Confined Space Certification (provided) Respiratory Fitness Certification (provided) Working Conditions: Work will primarily be performed in commercial and industrial environments, including HVAC systems, air handling units, and ductwork. Exposure to dust, dirt, and debris is common. Work involves the use of specialized equipment and tools.
