Job Summary
The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) is assigned to work with a student or small group of students who require individualized support to fully engage in school activities. Under the guidance of teachers and the Special Education and Pupil Services Department, the PCA provides instructional, behavioral, and physical assistance to help students succeed.
Essential Functions
Prepare, collect, and organize materials to support student participation in learning activities.
Provide one-on-one instructional, behavioral, and physical assistance to students as directed by the teacher.
Support students in small group activities, such as reading, storytelling, or drill work.
Maintain daily activity logs to track student progress and needs.
Alert the teacher to any concerns or special observations about students.
Assist substitute teachers by providing key information about assigned students.
Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality in handling student information.
Support students with mobility needs, including the use of walkers, wheelchairs, braces, or canes.
Assist students with self-care tasks as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned by teachers or school administrators.
Minimum Requirements
Education: High School Diploma required, along with any additional pre-requisite requirements defined by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and reports.
Clearances: Pennsylvania Criminal Record Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI Criminal Background Clearance.
Demonstrated Knowledge of:
Effective communication techniques for engaging with students and staff.
Various problem-solving methods to support student needs.
Demonstrated Ability to:
Follow directions accurately and efficiently.
Work closely, supportively, and compassionately with students with disabilities.
Adapt to different situations while maintaining patience and a positive attitude.
