350.org is a worldwide nonprofit organization dedicated to building a global grassroots movement to hold our leaders accountable to the realities of science and the principles of justice. The 350 US team works to advance climate justice within the United States and in partnership with regional teams around the world.


Scope of Work

The 350 US team seeks a contractor to assist the US digital supporter engagement and campaigning program. We deliver high-quality digital materials, including digital campaigns, campaign email blasts and social media posts, to our large supporter base in the US to keep them up to date and engaged on strategic and impactful climate campaigns.


The contractor will write email and action page copy, build emails in our CRM (ActionKit), and proofread, quality assure, test, and send email blasts to the list. The digital contractor will also write social media copy for Facebook, Bluesky, and Instagram that responds to climate news and the climate movement in the US, and schedule/post content via Buffer, Brandwatch, or other publishing tools. All content will be written in 350s organizational voice with a goal of persuading people to take some kind of campaign action, ie sign a petition, share on social, send a letter to the editor, call their senator, etc. The contractor will carry out their tasks remotely, online.


Deliverables

Deliverables will vary on a weekly basis for the duration of the contract, and will be agreed with 350 staff in advance, but might look like this:

  • Write 3+ email blasts per week, including copy for mailing, action page, donation page, confirmation email, and social shares.
  • Build 3+ email blasts per week in a CRM.
  • Proofread & QA 3+ email blasts per week.
  • Write 7-14+ social posts per week to schedule across Facebook/Bluesky and Instagram as appropriate.


Desired Qualifications

  • 1-3+ years experience writing copy in a digital role. This can be in a professional full-time and/or freelance capacity, or as an intern or volunteer, including with a campus student group.
  • Experience with progressive advocacy campaigns, either in a professional capacity or as a volunteer, including with a campus student group.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with fluency in English.
  • An understanding of or a willingness to learn about intersectionality in issues of race,class, and gender.
  • An understanding of US government, politics, and current events.
  • An interest in climate justice.
  • Experience with any CRM. Bonus: Experience with at least some of the key tools employed by the 350 US digital team, including ActionKit, Action Network, WordPress, Buffer, Brandwatch, Canva, and social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Bluesky, and Instagram.


Location: Remote


Position Type: Part-time contractor, 15-30 hours per week depending on availability and budget (flexible, can differ from week to week)


Reporting To: US Senior Digital Campaigner


Compensation: Approximately $50-$58 per hour, with option to discuss a per project, per week, or per month rate


Contract Period: 6 months, with option to extend or end contract early with a notice period of 1 week.
