Salary Range: $120,000 – $150,000 annually (commensurate with experience)

Position Overview

GYH is seeking an experienced Director of Marketing & Communications to lead the firm’s marketing, communications, and brand strategy. This role will oversee all aspects of external and internal communications, media relations, and marketing initiatives that strengthen the firm’s market position and support business development.

The Director works closely with the firm’s partners and legal team to elevate visibility, support client development efforts, and ensure the firm’s voice and brand are presented consistently across all platforms.

This is a senior leadership role for a strategic communicator who thrives in a fast-paced professional services environment and is comfortable balancing high-level strategy with hands-on execution.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Marketing Leadership

  • Develop and implement the firm’s comprehensive marketing and communications strategy.
  • Monitor market trends and competitive positioning to inform strategy.
  • Align marketing initiatives with the firm’s growth and business development objectives.

Brand Management

  • Maintain and strengthen the firm’s brand identity, voice, and visual standards.
  • Ensure consistent brand representation across all communications and materials.

Content Development & Communications

  • Oversee creation and distribution of client alerts, newsletters, website content, press releases, and thought leadership.
  • Manage internal communications supporting firm initiatives and leadership priorities.
  • Monitors and manages all digital marketing channels, including Google My Business and other online reviews.

Media Relations

  • Lead media outreach and cultivate relationships with journalists and industry publications.
  • Secure earned media placements that increase the firm’s visibility.
  • Prepare attorneys for media interviews, public speaking engagements, and public appearances.

Business Development Support

  • Prepare proposals, presentations, and capability statements.
  • Develop systems to track and strengthen referral sources.
  • Collaborate with attorneys to identify new business opportunities and strengthen client relationships.
  • Maintain and manage relationships with vendors and partner organizations for the purposes of donations, firm rankings, supporting BD technology, and joint initiatives.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor the firm’s Marketing Administrator.
  • Manage project timelines and ensure quality across marketing deliverables.
  • Develop and track annual marketing budgets and expenses, including the presentation of quarterly budget and project reports to firm leadership.
  • Collaboration with the operations team surrounding customer service initiatives and firm events.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum10 years of marketing, communications, or public relations experience
  • Minimum5 years in professional services (legal industry experience strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated media relations experience
  • Experience supporting business development initiatives
  • Prior staff supervision or team leadership

Skills

  • Strong understanding of brand strategy and marketing fundamentals
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to translate complex legal services into clear, compelling messaging
  • Strong presentation, networking, and relationship-building skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Position is remote hybrid requiring 1 day per week in the DC office and 1 day per week in the Silver Spring, MD office
  • 40+hours per week (not eligible for overtime)
  • Occasional travel and attendance at events after hours may be required
  • Requires careful handling of confidential information
  • Standard office environment with extended computer use
  • Rare lifting of files or materials up to 25–30lbs
