Role and Responsibilities
- Promote a Servant Leadership culture of being your Brother’s and Sister’s Keeper at all times
- Conduct site inspections, hazard assessments, and audits to ensure compliance with OSHA, client, and Thorpe standards.
- Direct support during unannounced regulatory inspections (e.g. OSHA) and participation in post incident.
- Support high-risk activities such as confined space entry, working at heights, and hot work operations with management to provide SME level guidance.
- Lead all incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action implementation and tracking.
- Experience in developing and presenting RCA’s, training, safety data, and other safety issues to clients and Sr. Leadership
- Deliver and document safety training and toolbox talks to field personnel, as necessary.
- Ensure all employees and subcontractors follow proper PPE requirements and safe work practices.
- Assist in the preparation and review of job safety analyses (JSAs) and safe work permits, as necessary.
- Maintain HSE records, (including injury/illness investigation reports, near misses, inspection reports, and training records)
- Serve as a support resource and advisor to supervisors and foremen on HSE-related matters, as necessary.
- Develop site safety improvement plans stemming from Audits and Near Misses, incidents, etc.
- Support the continuous improvement of safety procedures and programs.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Role supports the South Houston / Pearland /Pasadena/ Deer Park/and Freeport areas.
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or related field (preferred).
- Current safety certification (i.e., CSP, CSHT, COSS, CSHO, etc.) (required)
- Safety / Leadership management experience (required)
- Minimum 5 years of HSE experience in industrial construction or maintenance environments.
- Familiarity with safety protocols in high-risk work such as refractory installation, confined spaces, scaffold erection, or chemical handling.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety best practices.
- Expertise in Microsoft Excel; PPT, Outlook, etc.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to influence and coach team members on safe work behavior.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Capable of working independently and under pressure in dynamic environments.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk, stand, and climb ladders or scaffolding for extended periods.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch in confined and elevated spaces.
- Ability to work in hot, cold, dusty, and noisy environments (including confined spaces and outdoors).
- Must be physically capable of wearing respiratory protection and other PPE, including full-body harness and fall protection equipment, as needed.
- Lift and carry up to 55 lbs. unassisted.
- Visual and auditory ability to safely monitor field activities and recognize hazards.
- The ability to travel to remote job sites when required. Overnight lodging may be required.
- Field-based with frequent visits to industrial job sites (refineries, power plants, manufacturing facilities).
- Potential Exposure to hazardous materials, elevated work platforms, and heavy machinery.
- May require working in remote or high-risk environments under various weather conditions.
- The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes a hard hat, safety glasses/spoggles, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
