POSITION DESCRIPTION

Harlem United is the parent company for Upper Room AIDs Ministry (URAM). URAM provides the healthcare services from the Federally Qualified Health Center located in the heart of Harlem. We provide Primary Care, Specialty Care, Dental Care and Wellness Care to those seeking diagnosis and treatment. All employees of URAM are responsible to perform their job practicing good risk management, quality assurance, and delivering excellent internal and external customer service.

The Mobile Driver/Patient Office Assistant Serves as the primary driver of the Mobile Vehicles and assists with the patient care services and management, and navigation of patients on and off the mobile unit. Assists with preparations and ongoing maintenance of the Mobile Medical Vehicle such as ensuring overall cleanliness before, during, and after visits; performing equipment checks; maintaining inventory supplies; and performing other duties required to support the Mobile Medical Vehicle’s readiness to operate and to accept participant encounters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following as well as other duties that will be assigned:

  1. Always provide excellent customer service.
  2. Requires the ability, competence, and confidence to drive the Mobile Vehicle as part of routine job duties.
  3. Transport the mobile unit to scheduled site safety and on time.
  4. Maintain a clean and mechanically-sound vehicle.
  5. Obey all traffic laws.
  6. Perform inspections of the vehicle before and after each route/scheduled visit/activity
  7. Ensure safety of all patients and staff
  8. Responds to emergency situations with independent actions and within scope of practice until professional assistance is available.
  9. Assist patients with getting on and off the bus when required.
  10. Attend monthly staff meetings.
  11. Load and unload equipment/supplies as assigned.
  12. Maintain fuel levels and P&M schedule.
  13. Maintain millage and travel logs and prepares reports.
  14. Properly utilize wheelchair lift in vehicle according with Harlem United’s Policies
  15. Compete detailed incident report the day of any accident or parking violations.
  16. Set up the electrical system, organizes chairs, supplies before clinic session.
  17. Replenishes stock of clinic/medical supplies to mobile unit.
  18. Completes medical supply inventory and reports items to be ordered to Clinic Director to order.
  19. Completes driver vehicle evaluation form weekly.
  20. Data entry (registers all patients in EMR systems)
  21. Performs complete registration process by inputs demographics and insurance information into EMR, completing consents for treatment and information exchange. Collect any other data required by federal, state, or contracts.
  22. Verifies insurance coverage for all appointments.
  23. Maintains and reconciles an accurate cash drawer daily.
  24. Performs check ins, checkouts, cancellations and rescheduling of patient appointments.
  25. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  1. Must possess a valid Class B Unexpired, unsuspended Commercial Drivers’ License with good driving record and the ability to drive the Mobile Medical Vehicle to and from events
  2. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  3. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  4. Must pass physical and Drug/Alcohol Screening
  5. Must be able to understand and comply with the applicable DOT rules and regulations.
  6. Must be able to climb stairs to get in and out of vehicle.
  7. Sits, stands, and walks intermittently throughout the day.
  8. Must be able to function effectively in a team-oriented environment. 8. Must be flexible, reliable and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative.
  9. Prior experience as a Medical Assistant, Medical Attendant, or Front Office Staff a plus
  10. Capable of a flexible work schedule, with possibility of very occasional 10-hour days, may include weekend shifts.
  11. Strong customer service acumen including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards, and evaluation of customer service
  12. Ability to communicate and interact with others in a professional and courteous manner.
  13. Well organized paying attention to details
  14. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  15. Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  16. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, instructions, and procedure manuals.
  17. Proficient in data input on a computer terminal in an accurate and efficient manner
  18. Knowledge of use of common office equipment


SPECIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  1. In addition to the above-listed job responsibilities and educational requirements, the ideal candidate for this position possesses most or all of the following:
  2. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  3. Experience with electronic medical record (eClinicalWorks and Dentrix preferred)
  4. Excellent organizational skills
  5. Experience working with HIV/AIDS, LGBTQIA, SUD, Homeless populations
  6. Good written and verbal communication skills
  7. Ability to work as an efficient team member
  8. Willingness to work clinic hours of operation and alongside providers until last patient is seen.
  9. Bilingual (English/Spanish English/French) a plus
  10. Must be willing to agree to random breath alcohol and drug test

Special Requirements

The employee must be able to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination. Requires sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work with a moderate noise level in the work environment is required.
