The Emergency Department RN provides comprehensive, evidence-based, patient-centered care using clinical judgment and compassion to promote safety and optimal outcomes. The role involves assessment, implementation, evaluation, documentation, and collaboration within a fast-paced environment, following all established protocols, policies, and legal/ethical standards.
🧠 Essential Functions
- Full cycle patient care: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Pain management, medication administration, and IV therapy
- Emergency response including RSI, thrombolytic therapy, intubation support
- Accurate documentation and bedside shift reports using AIDET and hourly rounding
- Forensic documentation and mandated reporting (e.g., abuse, stabbings, sexual assault)
- Identification and management of violent or at-risk patients
- Teaching and discharge planning for patients and families
- Preceptorship and participation in professional development
- Promotion of patient safety and error prevention strategies
- Interpretation of lab and diagnostic results, cardiac rhythms, ABGs, and oxygenation levels
- Monitoring and intervention for ventilated patients and VAP prevention
- Medication reconciliation and collaborative case management

Education:
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing (required)
- Bachelor’s in Nursing (preferred)
Experience:
- 3–5 years ED experience preferred
Licenses & Certifications (AHA only unless otherwise noted):
- Current MA RN license
- BLS – upon hire
- ACLS – upon hire or within 60 days
- PALS – within 6 months of hire
- Preferred:
- TNCC
- ENPC
- CEN
