POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Glass Operations Supervisor, the Machine Maintenance Technician is an experienced machine maintenance worker ensuring that all Fosbel machines are maintained to meet quality standards, which will add to the high level of customer satisfaction. As part of the Warehouse Team, at times, this individual will assist with inventory control, material handling and other warehousing activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Collaborates with the Technical Department in developing maintenance procedures for the use and repair of all machines/equipment used in Fosbel refractory repair processes.(i.e., ceramic welding, gunning, and coating machines).
- Builds new machines as required to support introduction of new technologies and business development.Specification for the new generations of machines are developed by Technical Department personnel. Input of the Machine Maintenance Technician is very important to the successful completion of next generation machines and equipment. Continuous improvement of legacy machine designs is vitally important to the success of the organization and the Machine Maintenance Technician is an integral part of this process.
- Develops and coordinates inspection and routine maintenance schedules for the individual job sites.
- Performs scheduled preventive maintenance and inspections on machines/equipment.
- Repairs machines/equipment as breakdowns and malfunctions occur, including welding and fabrication.
- Owns the machine maintenance area and equipment therein, ensuring a clean, orderly efficient workplace.
- Works with the Glass Operations Supervisor to develop the schedule for machine PMs, repairs and new machine builds to successfully support operation. Responsible for the successful realization of that schedule once established.
- Provides troubleshooting assistance/advice and training to field personnel to enable simple and routine repairs.
- Works independently and within a team for project work.
- Observes good housekeeping and safety habits, follows Fosbel policies and procedures and performs other duties as assigned.
- Supports Warehouse (WHS) operations with responsibilities relating to staging and preparing equipment, machines, and toolboxes for jobs.
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES)
- Ability to read, understand and apply technical specifications.
- Previous experience with welding and fabrication preferred.
- Mechanical and electrical capability that includes pneumatic/oxygen systems, valves, gauges, motor / gear box assemblies, basic wiring, etc.
- Working knowledge of Lean, Standardization and Practical Problem Solving.
- Conceptual knowledge of PLC capability and operation, relationship of volume, pressure and mass regarding solids and gases, pressure vessel care and maintenance.
- Good technical writing skills.
- Ability to build effective relationships and liaise with colleagues at all levels and from various cultures.
- Self starter, able to work with minimal management input.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of a variety of computer software applications.
- Must be able to work in an ever-changing environment with demonstrated ability to prioritize and juggle competing tasks and demands.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma (or GED), formal training in machine maintenance and technical writing, and three to five years of refractory machine maintenance experience preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS (ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS)
- Hands on work with pneumatic, electrical and oxygen systems and tools.
- Willingness to work with dirty / oily equipment
- Lifting required of up to 50 pounds.
- Warehouse conditions can be dirty, noisy, hot/cold.
- Must be able to travel if needed (domestically or internationally) to help out, train or otherwise assist Fosbel sites around the world.
