Job Description
Senior Civil Engineer / Project Manager – Roads & Highways
Location: Minnesota (Hybrid, Remote, or Office-Based Options Available)
Salary Range: $120,000 – $150,000+ | Sign-On Bonus Available | Profit Sharing
Are you an experienced civil engineer who thrives on leading roadway and highway projects, and doing it with a team that values your expertise, your life outside of work, and your voice at the table?
This is an opportunity to step into a high-impact, long-term role where you’ll inherit a strong, established team, lead meaningful public infrastructure projects, and have the freedom to shape your career toward leadership, business development, or technical mastery.
If you want to be part of a culture where your contributions matter, where overtime is rare, and where leadership listens, please read on!
Why This Role?
- Work/Life Balance You Can Count On – Projects are scoped realistically, and overtime is avoided whenever possible. If it’s not sustainable, we don’t take it on.
- Flexibility in How & Where You Work – Hybrid schedules are the norm, with the option to work remotely and come in only a few days per month. We’ll tailor the arrangement to fit your role and life.
- Established Team & Client Base – You’ll step into a stable, collaborative team with repeat clients and ongoing DOT/county roadway projects, no building from scratch required (unless you want to grow the team).
- Path to Leadership & Ownership – This isn’t a dead-end role. You can grow into higher leadership positions, become a shareholder, and help guide the direction of the public works division.
- Impact Without Bureaucracy – Large enough to have resources, small enough that your ideas get heard. You’ll have direct access to decision-makers and the freedom to innovate.
- Culture People Come Back To – We have a strong history of employees returning after working elsewhere. Once you experience the culture, you understand why.
Role & Responsibilities:
In this role, you’ll:
- Lead roadway and highway projects for DOT and county clients, from concept to completion.
- Oversee budgets, schedules, and project delivery while keeping quality at the forefront.
- Build and maintain client relationships, ensuring repeat business and trust.
- Mentor and support engineers, technicians, and designers, helping the next generation grow.
- Guide proposal development and help win new work.
- Represent the team in public meetings and be a trusted resource for stakeholders.
What’s In It For You:
- Compensation & Bonus Potential: Competitive base salary ($110k-$150k+), performance bonuses, profit sharing, and sign-on bonus for the right candidate.
- Retirement & Benefits: 401(k) with match, annual profit sharing, and comprehensive health/dental/vision.
- Professional Growth: Support for licensure, training, and conferences; leadership mentoring from senior management.
- Ownership Track: Opportunity to buy into the firm and share in its long-term success.
- Additional Perks: Paid time off, holidays, hybrid/remote work setup, company-provided home office equipment, and flexibility to pursue personal goals (yes, people have taken extended sabbaticals).
Requirements:
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
- Minimum 5 years of civil engineering experience (DOT, roadway, or highway focus strongly preferred).
- Proven project management experience delivering transportation infrastructure projects.
- Ability to lead, mentor, and inspire engineers, designers, and technical staff.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience with MnDOT or other state DOT processes, standards, and specifications is a plus.
- Proficiency with MicroStation/OpenRoads or similar roadway design software preferred.
